NIL doesn’t define the success of an AD. Is it a consideration? Sure. But basically every sports program at the U is thriving or vastly improving aside from MBB (which is frustrating btw), it seems to me that Mark is doing a great job.

Love the Utes recent dominance. Do wish more schools fielded Ski teams, Wyoming used to have one and has won a few natty’s in it. I could see schools like Boise State, Idaho State, BYU, Utah State, Montana, and Nevada being able to field ski teams, not to mention the smaller schools across the west like SUU, Western Colorado, whatever that school…[Read more]

I’ll admit, I never expected the Utes to field a solid Baseball team (nor Swimming and Diving for that matter) in the Pac-12. Our athletic department is fantastic. Now if only Men’s basketball could pull their heads out of their rear.

Honestly, more power to them. I couldn’t care less. If they want to go be semi-pro, let them go be semi-pro. I don’t like the NFL for a reason and the more P5 becomes like the NFL the less I like. So the SEC can go do their thing, bring USC, UCLA and Oregon along with them, I’ll be just fine enjoying the College Football that I already love so much.

This makes me more pleased with the signing. I was wondering why another LB? I still think we need to shore up our secondary and OL. But what do I know?

I mean, I won’t denigrate any transfer the coaches want, but I’d rather see OL and DB support.

Cold blooded Whit right there. The greatest play of the season was that Whit time out, 2nd best was the subsequent punt return.

I was all in on the Rams today due to Gay, Weddle, and Burgess. So thrilled to see them get a ring! Congrats to the Rams and our Utes!

Whoa, he’s going to be the head coach at RB High?? That’s the high school where we lived in San Diego (we left right before my daughter’s freshman year) and the school Devaughn Vele went to. I’m stoked my all time favorite Ute will be the head coach there!

It’s hilarious how quickly NIL went from being Name, image, likeness to just openly paying players. And interestingly it appears the BYU opened that pandora’s box.

AlohaUte replied to the topic What are your thoughts on buying and showing off Rose Bowl merch? in the forum Football 3 years ago
I bought a white long sleeved Utah rose bowl shirt and I’ll wear it frequently. It’s comfortable shirt and it’s Ute gear. It’ll probably evolve into my boating shirt.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Weddle making a comeback! in the forum Football 3 years ago
Well, it’s just for a max 3 playoff games, probably just 1 or 2. He won’t be playing next season. This isn’t some permanent thing, it’s to fill a gap and need for the Rams due to a depleted secondary (too bad he didn’t have college eligibility left for the Rose Bowl!).

AlohaUte replied to the topic COVID from Rose Bowl in the forum Misc 3 years ago
No one in my group got it. I’m vaccinated and then got Covid after, so I’m pretty well protected I presume. My kids aren’t vaccinated but did have it in September so they probably have some immunity left.
Also, Covid doesn’t seem to spread much outdoors, though the likelihood was higher with so many people so close together.

Pretty amazing for Barnes and an awesome story! Kyle mentioned in his press conference that he didn’t want to get too strategic for Barnes due to his inexperience and alluded to the idea that had Rising been in they would have slowed it down and tried to score in the last minute. I actually barely celebrated that touchdown at all. In the stands…[Read more]

AlohaUte started the topic Anyone know why it was Barnes rather than JQJ? in the forum Football 3 years ago
First loved the game and worth every cent being there in person. It was Rice-Eccles in Pasadena. Lots to be proud of, definite mistakes and frustration in the game.
I’m curious though, why it was Barnes and not JQJ? Is JQJ just not that good or prepared? -
