They and KSL are way better than SL Tribune for Ute coverage. You don’t need to agree with the Church or read the rest of the news site, but it is worth your time to check out their sports pages as they have good coverage. Neither are just a schill for BYU.

I was at that game, it was probably the most fun I’ve had at a live event.

Grace McCallum already in, just signed a British olympic medalist (Amelie Morgan), Kara Eaker was a U.S. olympic team alternate, and they signed uneven bars national champ Sage Thompson.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Will the SEC replace the NCAA in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
Honestly at that point and after USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington also join, I’m fine reorganizing the rest of S
CFB to being what CFB should be. Let those schools go be semi pro and and the rest of us tell them to pound sand if they want to play ooc games. There are enough markets and viewers of the schools left out that there would still gobs…[Read more] -

My head says 54-10 or there abouts because we should give them a beat down and it would make us look good.
My heart loves (and hates) close football games that keep me engaged until the end, so I’d also enjoy a solid 24-21 win on a fluke play that rips the heart out BYU fans once again. But now that I think about it more, just give a good old…[Read more]

AlohaUte replied to the topic Pac-12 Discussing Dropping Down To Eight Conference Games in the forum Football 3 years, 6 months ago
Been pondering this, if we get a 4th OOC, I think our structure should be:
1. BYU or Utah State
2. Solid P5 team (e.g. Baylor, Florida, etc)
3. middling/crummy P5 (e.g. Illinois, Wake Forest, etc) or good G5 (Boise, SDSU, etc)
5. FCS or meh G5 (e.g. Montana, New Mexico, UNLV)And yes, I am one who loves the BYU game and thinks it should be played…[Read more]

I think the counter argument on diminishing the quality of the regular season is that with the 12 team playoff one, even two losses don’t eliminate you (not that one loss really eliminated P5’s anyway). Thus, playing another power team in the non-conference and losing is less likely to hurt you, and therefore P5’s may be more apt to play that…[Read more]

I really wish there was a way to force the SEC’s hand to play 9 games. I like playing more Pac-12 teams, not less. But at the same time, I get it and a move to 8 from a pure practicality standpoint is probably for the best. The Pac-12 teams that seem to always sell out or come close to it are likely to have minimal impact from, say, dropping Cal…[Read more]

I’ve never disliked CFB more than I do right now and it is a direct correlation with the 4 team playoff. I hate it immensely. In fact, I think I’ll continue to hate it as long as there is a situation where a team can go undefeated and still have zero change of making the playoff. I think the only thing that solves that is where every conference…[Read more]

Any system that doesn’t have an autobid for every FBS conference is insufficient. Thus, I support 12 or 16 with 10 autobids and the rest being at-large.

AlohaUte replied to the topic Should we do a daily feature on Ute Players…What do you think? Devaughn Vele: in the forum Football 3 years, 9 months ago
You can thank me (not really), he was in my ward when he was in High School. I was chatting with him in the hall and asked about playing after High School. He said he hoped to land at a Pac-12 school. I told him he needed to end up at Utah! He chuckled and said something like “I’d take it”. Lo and behold, a couple years later he’s at the U.

I think we are going to have a great team this year and will certainly compete for the Conference title. The biggest challenge to me is that the Pac-12 South is deep. USC, ASU, and UCLA will be right there with the Utes. Whichever team makes the fewest mistakes and takes advantage of opportunity will win the South. I don’t think there is really…[Read more]

Well put, I do have the utmost respect for Larry as a person and especially as a basketball mind. He clearly loves and knows the sport extremely well. And I do think you put it best, Larry hit his peak. He still has a bright future, maybe even at a different power-6 school, but I think he’d be perfect at a smaller D-1, like back at Montana or Cal…[Read more]

Yeah, that’s how every school is. It’s not like Utah has great programs in everything. BYU is still an excellent university. If you want to go into Business or Law or be an entrepreneur BYU is one of the best schools in the nation. If you want to study medicine, engineering, sciences and do research go to Utah.
