I thought Barton looked solid. He seemed to be around the ball a lot. In fact I thought he was looking better than Hansen until the 4th quarter.

At least they can laugh at themselves … I assume they made these for that purpose.

I’m actively embracing Colorado as our rival. I know that it is not there yet, but it has the most long-term potential and there are enough similarities between the schools and states that there are petty things for us to bash about.

This year?

Utah is right there with Stanford, Oregon and Arizona. I’d probably put us fourth behind Stanford. We have a strong, strong team this season, just a brutal schedule.

That is an incredible schedule. Good for them. They aren’t getting that in the Mountain West.

Some good games in there. Oregon non-conf schedule is embarassing. I know ours isn’t anything special, but yikes. Stanford could go 3-0 or 1-2. Washington State could maybe slip up against Wyoming and Cal will have a challenge against both UNC and BYU.

I can’t wait for the season!

A 3-way race between us, $C, and Zona. Will be interesting to see how quick Sumlin’s system can get traction in Tucson.

What Utah has going for it over the large market schools (Washington, USC, UCLA, CAL, Stanford) is that Salt Lake is also a large market but they and the Jazz are the only show in town (well RSL too, I guess) and Utah is a football state. So I think it has a similar draw as the Nebraskas and Oklahomas.

Excited to see Utah start the program. Establishing it now will make it stalwart program in the West as it continues to expand this way. Hopefully they can build a power program like they did with Gymnastics.

1. I’ve always been (and still am) a Mickelson guy and there was a bit of rivalry there. 2. Tiger was the popular, always trendy choice, generally I cheer for the underdog or the rival of such a team/player unless I grew up a fan of such a team/player. 3. 9-3, Utah wins the South.

Well, they’ve created an echo chamber over there where everyone will agree with you if you are left wing and ostracized and mocked if you are right-wing. They’ve created a nice little “safe-space” for themselves.

You see, the problem with fan vote is that it has nothing to do with who actually deserves it and more to do with who has the biggest fan base.

I’ve always compared us to Iowa, small population state, good & tenured coach, with the occassional great season and mostly solid seasons.

Michigan State is also a great parallel.

Todd Graham also didn’t have to migrate a team from the Mountain West to the Pac-12. Don’t underestimate the huge undertaking this was.

This. Never ever turn down a bowl bid. The extra practice and development is invaluable.

Our pass defense is solid, better than usual. But our Run defense has been bad — at least according to Utah standards.
