The Miami Ute replied to the topic Holiday Bowl in the forum Football 11 hours, 14 minutes ago
Six years ago, I stayed in the same hotel with my family for a week in San Diego and, during that period of time, two bowls were played in the area. Two teams stayed in the same hotel. One, unfortunately, was BYU, who was playing Wyoming in the Poinsettia Bowl. That went over about as well as a turn in a punchbowl, going to the gym in the early…[Read more]

Oklahoma has lost 26 players to the transfer portal. Some of the bigger names that Oklahoma has lost include quarterback Jackson Arnold, wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway, linebacker Dasan McCullough, wide receiver Brenen Thompson, wide receiver Nic Anderson, tight end Bauer Sharp, wide receiver J.J. Hester, wide receiver Jalil Farooq and wide…[Read more]

Here’s what we know…we know that college football, under a certain set of guidelines, has been wildly popular for over a hundred of years. In fact, at one time college football was much more popular than professional football.
Here’s what we don’t know…we don’t know if professionalizing college football will expand or even maintain its…[Read more]

Sports is a loss-leader for the vast majority of universities. That leads me to conclude that if the courts force universities to compensate athletes as employees, then most universities will take the path of least resistance and drop sports in general. Most will drop sports because it won’t be affordable but others, like…[Read more]

The problem with comparing college athletes with salaried employees of any industry, is that no one pays money to watch the salaried employees go about their business. Athletes are more akin to entertainers (singers, actors, comedians, etc..) in that their value is completely based on the number of eyeballs that they bring in. Just look at all…[Read more]

I would agree with all that, especially the IRS part. You have to believe that somewhere soon down the line, the IRS will take an interest in all of these “kids” making hundreds of thousands of dollars. How much do you want to make a bet that quite a few of these guys, a lot of which have probably never had a job except for sports in their…[Read more]

It would be weird if the Utes were playing and people would say that they weren’t interested in watching. It’s not weird to say that you’re not going to watch teams that you don’t care anything about. I’m a fan of Utah, not the sport in general.

All I have to say is that I hope he contributes more to the program than Tommy Grady and Kendal Thompson, the last two QBs that transferred from Oklahoma to Utah. The more legit P4 QBs in a QB room, the better. His presence surely can’t hurt.

Yes, and that’s why I’ve been saying for a while that all of these additions/commitments don’t mean jack until the players are suited up for the first game of the season. You could have a player have a great Spring camp, be seduced by another team, enter the April Portal, and never actually play a down for the Utes. More fool us if we don’t…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Who is your dark horse pick to win the NC? in the forum Football 6 days, 14 hours ago
Hard to see ASU as a potential NC pick. I believe that team has plenty of holes which, given the amount of time between the end of the regular season and their actual game, opponents with superior personnel can exploit. If, for example, the Sun Devils draw Texas as their next opponent, I can easily see a blowout going Texas’ way.

I agree. Also, for me, I’m just damned tired of the Dolphins putting out a substandard product season after season. I have better things to do than devote time to a team that’s a perennial underachiever.

It depends what the degree is, doesn’t it? I’m not sure an Interdisciplinary Studies degree from Cal would trump, say an Engineering degree from Utah. A lot of those athletes going to elite academic universities only get in because they’re athletes and only graduate because there are degrees available that really aren’t that intellectually demanding.
