The Miami Ute replied to the topic Coming to Rice Eccles- The new look Utes! in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Yeah, Arizona has been so financially mismanaged (tons of articles about this issue online) that they’re so poor that they can’t even pay attention. Due to that, I was shocked to see both Fifita and MacMillan stay this season. Must be one of those rare cases where players actually like the school that they’re going to.

Eagle, did you see the Illini’s uniforms for that game? I kind of dug them. They looked like a bunch of Red Granges on the field.

I’m not sure that I understand what you mean when you say we’re “living beyond our means.” RES has been sold out for well over a decade, the team has experienced success into this season, and Whitt’s pay is commensurate with his success. Yes, he has three more years in his current contract which has a base of ~$6.5M but that’s not a disaster.…[Read more]

There’s more to it than that. If you’re a 17-18 year old, Tempe is much more of a happening place than Salt Lake City.

Sure, and the one percent feels that the way America is going right now is just perfect. At the end of the day, it’s all about who’s interests are getting serviced.

Jumping in…I would consider Scalley to be the antithesis of Whitt…I don’t think that they’re alike at all.

You have to go no further than Bill Belichick to see what happens when your “way” or “method” no longer works. It’s a tale about as long as time. Just off the top of my head, Bobby Bowden was told “retire or we’ll fire you.” Same with Don Shula…and those guys were streets ahead of Whitt’s high point.
Personally, I’m willing to stick with…[Read more]

Yeah, I was shocked to see that. Tony Bennett is only 55 and has already won a NC. I remember when he started at Wazzu. He won’t be the only one. NIL, the lack of structure, the anarchy, the lack of predictability, is really starting to take all of the fun out of college sports. It’s almost like we’re returning to a sort of feudalism, where…[Read more]

Well, credit to Whitt and Lud for seeing something in those QBs that other programs didn’t and developing them into something. None of those players came to Utah as the finished article so Whitt and Lud have to get some credit for getting them to the top. That being said, the way the QB room has been mismanaged during the last two seasons is…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Hard to find more than one win the rest of the season in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Doubtful, Houston beat TCU easily two weeks ago and could do the same to Utah. I jokingly said after the ASU game that the Utes could end the season on an eight game losing streak never thinking it would happen. Now, it’s more likely than not.

Ahem, I’ve been saying this for a few weeks. Houston at home is no gimme. For example, just two weeks ago they handled TCU quite easily. They have decent offense and can put up points. This game looks more like a loss than anything else. In fact, I don’t see any game remaining in the schedule where this version of Utah would be favored.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic USC is… not very good in the forum Pac-12 1 month, 1 week ago
Yeah, I hear that Riley is in hot water. If it wasn’t for the eye watering size of his buyout his seat would be in peril. There’s definitely a sense of being duped and buyer’s remorse in that camp. Three seasons in, the return on investment has been quite minimal.

Sunbelt Billy should have never gotten the Florida job. Florida always seems to go for the next big thing and really have only gotten it right with Meyer.

The problem is that if USC doesn’t start winning ASAP. pretty soon they’ll have crowds around 10K at the Coliseum. That’s the problem when you’re a program in a huge city with great weather. You’re not the only Coca-Cola in the desert and people will just tune you out.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Indiana / Cignetti are legit in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
You think Cignetti will get poached? By whom? We had a conversation about him recently here. He’s almost as old as Whitt and is in his first year of a contract that runs through the 2029 season. He’s also never coached west of the Mississippi (except for two years at Rice almost 40 years ago), so that kind of limits his appeal and reach.…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Does it feel like a whole offseason in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Yeah, I don’t really count the Baylor game as one of those because they had a big lead during the entire contest that they frittered away. They remind me of one of those teams that jumps off to a great start of the season, lose once, and then proceed to lose many more times before the end of the season. There’s absolutely nothing that says to me…[Read more]

It’s not only that they’re 1-6, but they’re a bad 1-6. They’ve looked like trash in almost every one of their games. FSU picked a horrible time to give Mike Norvell a massive EIGHT YEAR extension at ~$10M per season during this offseason. That makes for an eye-watering buyout.

USC and Oklahoma are the new Nebraskas. They better start overpaying recruits but even that might not help them.
