    Apples to oranges.

The transfer portal as it is today didn’t exist in Larry’s first year. Larry was forced to find a bunch of guys that didn’t belong on a Pac12 roster just to have a full roster.

Smith SHOULD have a much easier time rebuilding the roster to be competitive next season.

There are tentatively two spots left. Pelle is in a hol…[Read more]

  • Currently two spots left but don’t be surprised if there is at least one more transfer out.

Some names that have been mentioned.
Oklahoma PF/C Kur Kuath 6’10” with 7’4” wingspan played at Kearns HS and then SLCC before going to OU. Would be great depth in the front court.

Boston College PF Steffon Mitchell 6’8” was recruited by Smith when he…[Read more]

What is smith’s record in the big dance while at USU?

Qualifying for the big dance in the MWC isn’t as big of a deal as you think it is.

  • AZUTE replied to the topic Aggie-Utes in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 7 months ago

Might as well go full circle and change our to the runnin’ aggies.

Smith is just bringing Coaches Players and Administrative people with him to Utah.

Is he just lazy or is it the fact he can’t do better?

    Allen to Texas
    Martinez to Maryland
    Plummber to Illinois
    Jantunen goes pro
All P5 players going to P5 or better teams

    Smith is rec…[Read more]

When he left the team to go help the Finnish National team he had to be talked into return to the team for the last few games so this is no real surprise. It was going to happen no matter who was the Coach.

  • AZUTE replied to the topic Jantunen in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 7 months ago

Pelle is currently practicing with the team Jantunen is not.

I doubt he would be allowed to practice if he had plans to return to Europe.

Smith has taken the all it or in the way approach.

  • AZUTE replied to the topic Worster is a Ute in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 7 months ago

So who gives a rats fat F#%k if it’s been TWO WEEKS. What the proper time frame to expect better results? A month? 6 months? A year?

  • AZUTE replied to the topic Worster is a Ute in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 7 months ago

Smith knows he’s in the Pac12 right?

He doesn’t have to recruit MWC type players anymore.

  • It’s hard to say how many scholarships are available as the roster is still in a bit of flux. There still may be another current player or two leaving.

Jantunen may return home to play pro ball.

Jones is in wait and see mode. He’s wants to see what kind of Coaches and players Smith brings in before he makes his final decision.

    Brenchley wil…[Read more]

  • Tim Allen is not coming back period end of story don’t waste your time wishing for it.

Smith wants to turn Larry’s roster over to his team as fast as he can.

Jenkins is a very good pick up. He made more 3s last year then Plummber 64 to 70 and at a better percentage 38 to 43

  • Yep losing out on LM was I think the straw that broke Larry’s back when it came to recruiting. He was all but signed and at the last minute Miller came in and took him away. That hurt Larry a lot and I just don’t think he was the same after that.

No it’s time for the NCAA to bring down Enfield at U$C. He’s just as dirty as Miller

  • Why are you so freaked about talking race and sports?

75% of the nba is black. Since 1983 only 3 white guys have won the NBA MVP award.
Of the top 100 2021 HS basketball recruits in American 85 are black.

Slocum was hired because he’s a great coach and because he’s black. Go ahead and stick your head in the sand if you want and pretend tha…[Read more]

  • Never thought I’d see the day BYU’s Bball roster had more ethnic diversity then Utah’s

Still think one or all of Jones Pelle or Jantunen leave.

Smith is not a dynamic recruiter and if he thinks hiring a token black assistant coach is going to change the perception of Utah basketball to HS and Prep school players and coaches he’s in for a ride…[Read more]

  • Just to add. Every sports team at Utah has had some sort of facilities upgrade since joining the Pac12 except baseball and I think swimming but how do you upgrade water?

I know the U tried to build an on campus field on guardsmen but they got pushback from the city on the exact location resulting in a kind of awkward setup making that field…[Read more]

  • Actually I’m a huge baseball fan. What I’m not a fan of is constantly losing. Men’s tennis wins regularly as dose women’s volleyball and so on. Even the golf team is getting an indoor facility. The university doesn’t put any money into the program. Kinneburg should’ve been fired years ago if the university was serious about Utah baseball. W…[Read more]

  • Utah baseball should be eliminated.
It’s a drain on the athletic dept budget.
No on campus facilities. No body goes to game but families and girlfriends.
One fluke championship but spends most of their time in the bottom third of the conference.

Eliminate it and start a Men’s T&F program.

  • Andy Enfield is as dirty as Sean Miller. He has bought multiple recruits while at SC but just like Miller he’s not a very good Coach so the return on the investment hasn’t always shown up on the court.

  • Hey Spence go ban some more of our first amendment rights and stay out of basketball.

    #secondaduitcomingnow

  • He can’t recruit against Arizona Oregon or USC. He doesn’t have the money to compete with those teams. FYI college Bball is still just as dirty as it’s always been. Larry found this out the hard way

Smith needs to find those 3/4 star under the radar types and develop them into 5 star players.

You need to find that balance between players Coach…[Read more]

  • AZUTE replied to the topic Craig Smith in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 7 months ago

I never said Alex was done? I said he was 98% done meaning he was very very close to be Utah’s next Bball Coach. Harlan some Boosters and some former players has Alex almost convinced to take the job. So much so contract details were being ironed out.

In the end Alex’s heart is in the NBA but give Harlan credit if went after the big fish and alm…[Read more]
