I never said Alex was done? I said he was 98% done meaning he was very very close to be Utah’s next Bball Coach. Harlan some Boosters and some former players has Alex almost convinced to take the job. So much so contract details were being ironed out.
In the end Alex’s heart is in the NBA but give Harlan credit if went after the big fish and alm…[Read more]

AZUTE replied to the topic Not just a Utah problem in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 7 months ago
With the ncaa allowing no penalty transfers you are going to see rostergeddon this year.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see over 1000 players in the portal. Which is currently about 700

99% done but Alex was 98% done so things can still fall apart

It will Smith or Bryant

I guess you’re gonna be very disappointed when it doesn’t happen

AZUTE replied to the topic Porter Moser – Loyola-Chicago Coach in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
It be hard for some of you to believe but not every “smaller” school coach is knocking down Harlan’s door to Coach at Utah
-
AZUTE replied to the topic Porter Moser – Loyola-Chicago Coach in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
Utah may be interested in Moser but I doubt Moser has any interest in Utah.
He’s a Midwest guy with zero ties out west. He’s got a very good thing going at Loyola. He will be on the shortlists of some Midwestern power schools very soon.

AZUTE replied to the topic Almost obvious the next Utah BB coach is still currently coaching in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
Don’t get me wrong I’d would be doing cartwheels if Alex took the job and would happily eat crow and ask for seconds.
He is and should be the first choice as Coach. I just think in the end he’ll stay in the NBA.
A close second is JB. He’s a smart young energetic coach who will put some life back into the program.

AZUTE replied to the topic Almost obvious the next Utah BB coach is still currently coaching in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
Yes Utah’s next basketball coach is still coaching…….in the NBA
I maintain Alex Jensen will not take the job which means Utah’s next coach is likely Jonnie Bryant.

AZUTE replied to the topic Jeff Jonas proves Abraham Lincoln right! in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
Jonas said the current team is talent poor and we need better players.
Well who’s fault is that?????
Larry was burned out after 10 years and lost the enthusiasm to recruit.
Utah basketball is a very difficult place to recruit to. Even with all his success Big Rick struggled to get top black athletes to sign with Utah.
There are a lot of s…[Read more]

AZUTE replied to the topic Why Alex Jensen? in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
People close to him have said as much. He would never say it publicly himself for PR reasons but Alex is very very very well respected in NBA circles and will be a head coach within a few years as long as the Jazz keep having success.
Believe me I would love to have him and I would hope Harlan would at least call him but barring a miracle Alex…[Read more]

AZUTE replied to the topic Why Alex Jensen? in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
ALEX JENSEN IS NOT GOING TO BE THE NEXT COACH OF UTAH BASKETBALL.
He wants nothing to do with college basketball.
He wants to be an NBA Coach and he views college basketball as taking a career step backwards even at Utah.
Move on it’s not going to happen.

AZUTE replied to the topic 2 players have entered the portal today in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
There will be more.
I fully expect Brenchley to leave
Kellier is no real loss. Lahat never developed
Brenchley got passed over by better talent.
These are end of Bench guys that Larry will replace with more end of bench guys that have no business being on a Pac12 basketball roster. -
AZUTE replied to the topic Sad reminder on this Selection Sunday in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
How long before Harlan drops the ax on Larry?
Got to be sooner rather than later. Get new Coach in ASAP to start working on new staff and recruiting. If it’s not done by next Friday I’m guessing Larry will still be Utah Head Bball Coach for at least next season.

AZUTE replied to the topic I don’t see Larry being outed after this year. I could be dead wrong. in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
Larry is gone. 7 mil over four years isn’t that much. This year has been a huge disappointment and another year of no NCAA tournament.
It would cost more to keep him in terms of recruiting, season tickets revenue as fan apathy is at an all time high.
One win over an asu team that had given up doesn’t change the overall poor season. -
AZUTE replied to the topic The Next Utah Basketball Coach in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
Jensen isn’t happening. He’ll be an nba HC in a few years.
Pope no thank you and if he did come Burgess would take his spot as HC at BYU
If you want an instate Coach I’d go for Smith at USU before Pope.
He’s done good things in Logan.
First Choice will always be Jonnie Bryant -
AZUTE replied to the topic One more loss closer to Larry being fired in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
The team is a complete mess Harlan has no choice but to fire him.
Larry knows he’s failed he will be more willing to except negotiated buyout terms.
Start the rebuilding process quickly

AZUTE replied to the topic WR Coach: Who are the likely candidates? Who’s your ideal get and realistic get? in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
The first requirement of the new WR Coach has to be able to recruit recruit recruit.
Actual coaching experience is a far second.

AZUTE replied to the topic Lets hear your pie in the sky scenarios for the now open coaching position! in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
Whit needs someone with NFL playing experience.
That’s all young kids/recruits are looking at today.Look what Arizona St
The new Coach doesn’t even need to have coaching experience but if he has 5 to 10 years of NFL playing experience that’s a home run hire.
So I’ll say former Seahawk WR Doug Baldwin

AZUTE replied to the topic Name this Utah Football player in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
That’s a walk on LB from California. If he gets on the field at on it will be strictly special teams.
In all seriousness he could play LB, DE, SS, WR, TE, or RB and be all Pac12 at any of them.
There is QB where he could be the next Vince Young.
