The Miami Ute replied to the topic I hear Cam has decided to stay. in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
I think Barnes stays, considering he’s from Utah. Rose and Johnson, I’m not sure about. Howard is another guy that’s probably wondering about his future as well.

A decision like this has second and third order effects and has the potential to create a series of unintentional consequences. For example, does this prompt an exodus out of the Utah QB room? Who stays and who goes?

This is what happens when you try to run an university like a corporation. Glad I don’t live in Arizona and have to be on the hook for the bailout the university will most likely need.
This tidbit is interesting and might be a harbinger for other university athletic programs:
Robbins also indicated that individual sports could be eliminated…

Charlie, it’s hard for me to get excited about Utah possibly getting another California 4 Star HS QB, when I see 5 Star QBs in other teams riding the bench or just being straight up busts.
I don’t like Lincoln Riley but I do agree with him when he says that your performance at the college level, and not the high school level, is what really…[Read more]

Two things…One, none of the 4 star QBs we’ve recruited recently have ever amounted to anything. Two, if this guy is as good as advertised then either he or Wilson will transfer. You can’t expect either one to calmly sit behind the other. That being said, it’s good to get as many highly ranked recruits as possible so that you can eventually hit on one.

I have no doubt that Dan’s smirk is going to be turned into a frown starting next year.

Try JoJo’s Restaurant. I’ve eaten there a few times and have never been disappointed.

For me, the team comes first, the individuals a far second. Would you then become a USC fan is Kyle became the Trojans’ HC? Not to insult you. but you sound like one of those guys that followed Real Madrid and Barcelona when Ronaldo and Messi were playing there. Once they left, so did they. I’m always going to be a Utah Utes’ fan. The…[Read more]

Nothing against your comment but of all the teams not named USC in the PAC, Oregon is the team I’d least like to win anything. Their football fortunes have been mostly bankrolled this century by one Philip Hampson Knight, who’s done everything possible, to the tune of over $2B in university donations, to buy Oregon a football championship. Yeah.…[Read more]

I don’t discount anything that you mention above. My only quibble is that Nebraska was not the only team that was doing some of the things you mention above. You can bet that teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Miami, USC, etc… all did shady stuff because in the days before the internet, 24 hour news cycle, and social media you could get away with it.

During the time frame that you mention, Nebraska won FIVE national championships and played for an amazing eight other. What I mean by that is that they would have had the possibility of winning a national championship if they would have won their bowl game. It’s just shocking how such a prestigious team with amazing facilities, rabid fans, good…[Read more]

I’ve always used Nebraska as a cautionary tale that not all change is progress. Nebraska, when I was growing up in the 70s through early this century, was always in the mix for the national championship. As it is, its football history makes Oregon and Washington combined look like a couple of expansion teams. They’ve fallen off the face of the…[Read more]

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Maybe if that happens season tickets at RES will come back to reasonable rates.

All I’m going to say is that I prefer winning to the university making money but losing constantly. If that means a return to the Mountain West, that’s what it means. As Central Coast so wisely alluded to, no fan is ever going to see a cent of that extra money but they sure as heck will see all of the losses.

I disagree with your take on Bentley and Brewer. Both those guys were way above mediocre in their prior schools before coming to Utah, hence the disappointment that they didn’t work out. Brewer was a four year starter and the second leading passer is Baylor history. Bentley was a three year starter and the fourth leading passer in SC Gamecock…[Read more]

I’m in Florida for a funeral and the only play I was able to watch was the OPI on Sugutaraga. WTF over? It doesn’t matter folks… whoever Washington plays in the CFP, if they make it that far, is going to give them such an ass beating it might close their whole football program.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic College QB NFL Draft Rankings in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Data, as you know, drafting is an inexact science. Look at Brock Purdy, Mr Irrelevant in last year’s draft. Nobody would have predicted that he would have become the 49ers full-time starter ever, much less in his first season.
What were mostly talking about is positive physical measurables and demonstrated flaws that would need to be polished…[Read more]
