The Miami Ute replied to the topic College QB NFL Draft Rankings in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Data, as you know, drafting is an inexact science. Look at Brock Purdy, Mr Irrelevant in last year’s draft. Nobody would have predicted that he would have become the 49ers full-time starter ever, much less in his first season.
What were mostly talking about is positive physical measurables and demonstrated flaws that would need to be polished…[Read more]

Exactly. They’re making their schools a lot of money. They’re also probably doing pretty well themselves via NIL. Future NFL prospects, not so much. The issues that made NFL scouts about future potential are still there.

Honestly, I’ve had a subscription to PFF for years and, hard to believe I know, Rising’s name has never even come up as a marginal NFL player. The NFL scouting system doesn’t give much weight to intangibles and that’s where Rising falters.

Correction, Jets’ “scouts” were responsible for Wilson getting drafted #2 overall…

I think NFL scouts are also concerned by the fact that Penix is only considering 43 percent of his passes when he’s outside the pocket (guess what Utah needs to do on Saturday). That’s way too low for someone who’s aspiring to go to the NFL.
Moving on, I also think that the scouts have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of Nix’s success is based…[Read more]

Interesting to see that NFL scouts don’t project guys like Nix or Penix to be very high draft choices. Rising isn’t even discussed in this conversation even though he’s obviously draft eligible. Goes to show how different the college and pro games are when a guy like Shadeur Sanders is projected to be drafted much higher than guys who are…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Lincoln Riley's LA Home in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
That’s an urban myth. I did some research on that subject and he sold one of those (the other is still up for sale) on his own. That all started when some Oklahoma oil man tweeted that USC had bought his houses as part of his contract without any sort of verification. It was immediately proven false but the internet ran with the narrative.

If Utah beats Washington this Saturday, they’ll definitely move up into the Top 15 at the very worst.

Not exactly. His contract includes a $6M housing allowance. My assumption is that he used that allowance for the down payment.

He gets paid, before taxes, $11M per year. California takes 13.30 out of that $11M and the federal government, without any weird deductions, takes another $186,601.50 plus 37% of the excess over $693,750. That leaves him less than $5.5M of net income per annum. The house cost $17.2M, so no, he didn’t pay it off in one year or at closing. He’s…[Read more]

Growing up in Miami, the only people I remember that had houses like this, were big-time drug dealers…do with that what you will…and in fact, it kind of reminds me of Tony Montana’s place in the movie “Scarface”. All he’s missing are the tigers.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Pac-12 Championship path scenario in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
You misread me. I’d definitely take another shot at Oregon instead of watching the CCG at home. However, I’d much rather play Washington or Oregon State in the game. I think playing either of those teams in a neutral environment would give Utah a much better chance at a victory.

I’m not a fan of any scenario that has Utah playing Oregon in the CCG. I can almost guarantee you that Lanning would not be calling off the dogs during that game.

A couple of things…Washington’s defense isn’t much better that USC’s. They’re currently ranked #100 in the FBS so Utah should have little to no problem moving the ball on them. Heck, I watched that ASU vs UW game, and the Sun Devils had no problem generating offense. So much so, that they actually outgained Washington 341 yards to 288 yards.…[Read more]

Good call. That’s also who I would take as well. Bigger than Williams, about as elusive, bigger arm…his problem is that he plays at a basketball school and doesn’t get anywhere near the press as Williams.

the only reason they kept Helton as long as they did was because they couldn’t afford the buyout.
Sounds like Utah during the last few years of the Coach K regime.
