I think inflation and the economy might have something to do with it as well.

Chinngis, I can think of $6.2M reasons why Kyle is doing what he’s doing. I posted a few days ago about athletes that don’t really like their sports but the money is too good to turn down. I imagine that there are some coaches that feel the same way.

I’m thinking Whitt said that in regards to the actual running and performance of the program. Whitt is a very astute guy and I have no doubt he fully understands the important role the community plays in making sure he’s a success. Many people have said it on this site and I think it’s worth repeating. Football is entertainment and players and…[Read more]

He needs to review old tapes of Dan Marino. It’s either pass the ball or sit on the ground once the rush gets to you. Marino was a slow, big guy and you hardly ever saw him get hit hard.

Just came out this morning. Posting here in case anyone is interested.
This week, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said the Utes would find out earlier in the week if Rising would be cleared to play against Cal this weekend, but wouldn’t announce anything leading up to the Saturday afternoon kickoff in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The Athletic caught up w…

You might be right but we won’t know until he actually plays. Plenty of times in my life, I’ve seen QBs come in and have completely different results with the same players. Maybe it’s the attitude and confidence that they bring with them. Maybe it’s the fact that they’re better. For example, you can go back and see the difference in Utah’s…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Cal @ Utah keys to a win? in the forum Football 1 year, 5 months ago
Eagle, I’m kind of going into this game with butterflies in my stomach because I truly don’t know what to expect. I think the defense will be able to handle Cal’s offense but will our offense be able to consistently move the ball and score? It hasn’t really happened against any competition so far this season. At some point, they kind of have to…[Read more]

The best part of that scenario is seeing Williams’ reaction to another loss to Cam.

Yeah, you’ve got a point. Friction points in the QB room not only develop when you bring in a transfer. They also occur when someone unexpectedly stays longer in the program and blocks someone else’s ascension.

Cam will be 25 well before the 2024 season starts. He’d be 26 right about the same time that the 2025 NFL draft takes place. That’s at least four years taken off a typical NFL career. He’s definitely got a lot to think about and that’s not even adding to the equation that maybe Whitt might be ready to move on as well.

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn’t know if the fact that 2020 was a medical redshirt year for Cam affected his ability to get another one.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic What is the drop dead date for Cam’s return in the forum Football 1 year, 5 months ago
As per the regs, he should be able to since he meets all of the requirements. The real question is if he would want to and if Whitt would want him back for a sixth season with the program. We don’t know, but you’d have to think that the possibility exists that Rose or Johnson would at least ponder a transfer if they were facing another season of…[Read more]

There’s no video of Whitt talking about another redshirt year for Rose. It’s a direct quote from him in the text. Whitt says:
Backup to be determined,” Whittingham said. “Nate obviously will be the guy, but the backup would be- we’ve got Brandon Rose and Luke Bottari to fill the backup role. It will be one of those two guys.”
The idea of…

The Miami Ute replied to the topic QB Depth Roster in the forum Football 1 year, 5 months ago
I believe that it was more a case of Bottari being interested in Cal than vice versa. He’s from the Bay area and was going to go to Cal as a walk-on. I’m guessing that he got there, took a look at the QB room, and hightailed it back to Utah. From the time he declared that he was transferring to Cal to the time that he returned back to Utah was…[Read more]
