Smith is in the third year of a six year contract. I have to imagine that if by the end of next season there’s no discernible sense of progress, Utah will can him. At that point, Utah would only have to swallow $3.7M of his buyout, making it more palatable.

Man, that’s a tough ask for a guy that really hasn’t played the QB position at a competitive level in college. Plus it’s not really his choice but the coaching staff’s.

And we still have no idea what’s wrong with him, correct?

I agree with your Teat comment. He’s looked pretty decent in his garbage time appearances so far this season. He’s certainly more dynamic than Erickson, that’s a certainly. I’m not sure that Exacte would make much of a difference. He’s another guy that would get rotation minutes but he certainly wasn’t anything close to a difference maker last…[Read more]

Very little dynamism to this team. For example, I have my doubts as to whether Worster would start for any PAC 12 outfit. I kind of get the feeling that the word is out on how to play the Utes. Essentially, wait for them to hit a 3 point dry spell and pull away. Again, I’m thinking that, unless something miraculous happens, we’re looking at…[Read more]

I’m not certain that they have the athleticism or gas to be a top tier conference team. It seems like they have to play at their very best and the opponent has to falter a bit for them to get the win.
As I look at the schedule, I have to ask where the away wins are going to come from. Cal is the only real gimme. Wazzu and Oregon State are…[Read more]

Please educate me on the last Utah Utes football player that came to Utah after being charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. I’ll wait.

Some perspective is needed…Muhsin Muhammad was arrested because, by having a gun in the glove compartment in his car, he violated his probation from an earlier charge of possession of marijuana. This is essentially a victimless crime.
Now, compare that with Bridges’ transgressions, which was robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and assault a…[Read more]

Really two totally different issues…As a member of the Spartans, Muhsin Muhammad ran afoul of the law in 1993, when campus police discovered a gun in the glove compartment of his car. This was a violation of his probation from an earlier charge of possession of marijuana.
Now, compare that with Bridges’ crime, which was robbery, conspiracy to…[Read more]

Dorian Singer, otherwise known as how to wreck your football career in 10 easy lessons, is the poster child for everything that could go wrong with a portal move. The guy went from being projected as a borderline 1st RD draft pick to an UDFA. You think he’s suffering from buyer’s remorse right about now? And JJ was nowhere near the level of…[Read more]

This is an excerpt from the arrest warrant:
Bridges — wearing a blue surgical face mask — pointed a handgun at the victim. The victim then pulled McGowan to the ground, and Bridges hit the victim on the head with the gun and kicked him multiple times. Bridges then allegedly threatened to shoot and kill him.</blockquot

Arkansas is routinely a bottom tier team in the SEC. Not entirely sure what the thought process was with regards to this decision. I can’t imagine that whatever NIL package Arkansas put together was significantly greater than what he would have received at Utah. So, you leave the place where you’re the undisputed #1 RB on a winning team to go…[Read more]

Just keep in mind that Bridges is no high school kid. 2024 will be his sixth college football season and he’ll turn 24 later this year. I just don’t want some one season transfer to disturb the chemistry of the team because he has a chaotic life. We already went through an episode like that during the Thomas years.

Don’t know how you can get past the fact that he threatened to kill someone with a loaded weapon while in the commission of a felony. I wish him well as he gets his life together but not as a part of the Utah football team.

I don’t even get excited when we bring in guys that have been good in other schools. Just because you did it there, doesn’t mean you’ll do it at Utah. Brewer is Exhibit A in this train of thought…he was a four year starter at Baylor and the second leading passer in the school’s history and we saw what happened. Hartman at Notre Dame is…[Read more]

I have season tickets and have watched every Utah game this season. This is the worst we’ve looked by far this season. The team literally shit the bed in the second half. It’s been a while since I’ve seen team miss so many easy shots. Utah has to win games like this if it hopes to make it to the dance. Hard to see them making it with just a…[Read more]

Eagle, threatening to kill someone with a firearm is some serious stuff. Maybe the pros can rationalize having someone like that on a team but Utah?

I have to imagine that all of those offers were for backup positions. There’s no way that Barnes is better than any of the leading QBs already present at those schools.
