I went with my youngest daughter and we had a great time in Vegas. I also enjoyed the experience of walking to the stadium and exploring all of its futuristic features. It truly is a great place to watch a football game. The actual game, not so much…I’m just glad the contest was in Vegas, where there are ton of things to do, and relatively…[Read more]

Personally, I don’t think we’re going back to NFL eligible athletes or portal entrants playing routine bowl games. I’m with you though. If the Utes don’t make the CFP, why would anyone travel hundreds (or thousands) of miles, with all of the associated costs, to support a B squad in what’s essentially a meaningless exhibition game? Truth be…[Read more]

Here’s what we know…you can’t receive a medical redshirt unless you suffer a season ending injury (that’s what the NCAA says). You can’t play a bowl game if you’ve suffered a season ending injury ergo if Rose wants a medical redshirt, then he can’t play in a bowl game. Don’t know how else to put it. We can talk all we want about Whitt, Utah’s…[Read more]

Whitt also said that Rising and Kuithe would play this season. I can only tell you what the NCAA bylaws explicitly state regarding the redshirt issue.

I don’t know…I firmly believe that teams like TT, Baylor, and TCU (for starters) have plenty of potential to have good seasons. I mean, TCU was in the NCG last year…all those schools have plenty of money, great facilities, good traditions, and are in fertile recruiting grounds. I would also add UCF to that mix as a newcomer…they have…[Read more]

There’s a lot of misinformation regarding this issue. As currently written, NCAA statutes explicitly state that you have to suffer a “season ending injury” in order to qualify for a medical redshirt. In addition, the bowl exception for regular redshirts was a one time thing put in effect during last year’s bowl season. That exception was not…[Read more]

IMO, perception is everything.
In life as in the movies, perception is reality. All teams, no matter who they are, have a rough time replacing a legendary coach. Look at Alabama when Bear Bryant left (and Saban in the near future). Look at PSU when Paterno left. Look at Nebraska when Osborne left. Look at USC when Carroll left. Look at…[Read more]

Here are mine:
1. Whitt is much closer to the end than the beginning. No doubt that’s going to be used early and often by other programs as they try to influence recruits.
2. Utah is at a recruiting disadvantage. Texas Tech just pulled in Micah Hudson, the #7 recruit in the nation. Will Utah ever even come close to recruiting someone of…[Read more] -
The Miami Ute replied to the topic New Poll: Rate the coaching staff's 2023 Football Season in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I voted “Good”. The team still finished with a decent record even with a slew of injuries to key contributors. That has to count for something. I didn’t rate them as “Excellent” because of all of the QB drama that could have been mitigated with prior planning. I also wasn’t too happy with how the Barnes/Johnson situation was handled. It’s…[Read more]

I’d think that the motivation of the guys who were getting the opportunity to start in a bowl game would be quite high. My biggest concern is the addiction to Barnes when he’s proven in copious game tape that he’s not a P5 QB.

If Barnes does come back it’ll be solely because no other team wants him. And, honestly, who could blame those teams?

Did you know that Jackson was like the #7 ranked QB in the 2020 HS recruiting class? I was shocked when I saw that because normally Utah would never be in play for a guy rated so high in any position.

Maybe you’re right. After all, he’s much closer to the end his career than the beginning. I saw things this season that left me scratching my head and still don’t understand. If he is going to go, I’d prefer it would be sooner rather than later so he doesn’t tarnish his legacy. Personally, I can’t imagine him coaching more than 2-3 more years.…[Read more]

After a performance like tonight’s, Barnes did himself a lot of harm. I sincerely doubt any top level FCS program would even be interested.

Can someone explain to me how, after a month of rest and prep, the offense came out the way it did? If Utah was playing a team with a competent offense tonight this would have been a 40-50 point loss considering the turnovers. Honestly, one of the least entertaining games I’ve watched in my life.

I’m at the game. Barnes has been as horrible in person as on TV. Love the guy as a placeholder QB but he can’t play another down for Utah. We’ve gone well past the point of diminishing returns with him.
