At this point I have no idea what’s going on. During the Locked on Utes program today, JT Westrcill said that Bottari would be backing up Barnes. I didn’t hear any mention of Rose playing at all.

Good point. I didn’t think about the NIL factor. Maybe the collective is trying to lowball Kuithe? According to all of the data I’ve seen, he’s one of the highest paid Utes but hasn’t played in almost two seasons. I could see the Crimson Collective trying to get him to lower his financial expectations.

I’m not 100 percent certain that Kuithe comes back. Even after being out of action for 14-15 months, I’m still seeing him pop up as a 6th/7th Rd pick in various mock drafts. Maybe he just decides to bet on himself and attempt to stick with a team? He surely isn’t getting any younger.

I’m pretty certain that’s not the way medical redshirts work. Everything I’ve read about the subject explicitly states that to qualify for one, the injury that the athlete has suffered must be deemed as “season ending.”

Barnes is playing because he wants to and because Whitt and Andy feel that he gives the Utes the best chance to win. If Whitt thought that a healthy Rose was head and shoulders above Barnes, then it would be Rose playing and Barnes sitting down.

I talked to the Utah ticket office today and the agent I talked to said that they were aware of the issue and it would be corrected well before the bowl game. The agent also told me that I, as the ticket purchaser, would not have to do anything to facilitate the correction.

I said that when it happened…if it was Alabama’s QB (Millroe) who was out of the season but they were 13-0, does anyone in their right mind think that the committee would have left them out? I have the same issue with my tickets. My tickets also say underneath the QR Code “Not an event ticket.” I guess I’ll have to call the ticket office tomorrow to find out what’s going on.

You could make the same argument for Kuithe. Personally, I think that neither is physically ready to strap on the pads in a real game. That speaks to the severity of both of their injuries. Hopefully, they’ll both be ready to go in 2024.

Personally, I’d move on from Barnes the moment he said he was entering the portal. However, I can see why Whitt is using him as his presence probably gives the Utes the best chance to win.
