His Dad played DB at Utah and was a very good player. I think if they had started early and kept after him, they would have had a great chance at landing him. No long trips, he was just up the road in Kaysville.
Just another example of less than stellar recruiting of the QB position.

I think the Defense is still solid, if they get a little help from the Offense in at least possessing the ball for a time and scoring a little more than recently.
The only chance for this is going to be dependent on Rose being better with more reps now, and possibly knowing he is the starter and getting practiced up for it. The receivers have to…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic Keba Keita in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 months ago
Yes, NIL is a major part of it, but this is what I think today’s head coaches should become expert in. Arranging, seeking out, helping however they legally can to get the players NIL money. We may not like it, but for now NIL is the name of the game.
Utah Utes have no shortage of supporters with very deep pockets. Before NIL they were called…[Read more]

I must have been asleep. Does anyone know any details of Keba ending up at our rival BYU? When, Why?
I would think A major job of coach Smith’s would have been retaining Keita. What I’ve seen so far of the Ute team, they don’t have a guy that can defend and rebound like him.
With the disaster of a football season so far, this really seems…[Read more]

Good to know who she is. I noticed her also. She must really be a fan, because I doubt her job description includes supporting the team by being on the sideline right by coach Whit!
Maybe she can offer some advice for handling the QB situation going forward?

Looks like Smith is building a 3 point shooting team, which when hitting on all cylinders can win some games. Only problem, after the two Madsen brothers and maybe Mike S., there is no reliable outside shooter. Coach has his son on the team, and the only reason I can think of is he is a great shooter (Don’t know).
I had hopes for Erickson, and…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte started the topic the Utes should win at Houston? in the forum Football 2 months, 1 week ago
I haven’t done an in depth research of Houston football this year, but based on their record, 2-5, and the opponents they have faced, Utah should win this game.
Houston has struggled to score against better defenses, which I think we are rounding into, with Reid back and game experience so far of the younger players.
Goes without saying that the…[Read more]

Tony, this probably says a lot about me, but is there an address, post office box, that I can send an old fashioned check to you?

BleedsRedUte started the topic Why fire Ludwig? in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Ludwig is the fall guy in this dumpster fire. Yes, he is in the position that you can lay blame, even though a host of bad coaching and decisions have resulted in the situation as it is now.
You can’t say that wide receiver coaching and the offensive line coaching are blameless. Neither has been stellar! Also, I’m sure Whit has had a part in…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte started the topic Wilson in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago
I’m beginning to think the coaching staff made a huge mistake putting Wilson ahead of Rose, and even Huard. Wilson is a true Freshman, with no experience at the College level. He hasn’t shown that he has great accuracy or even a strong arm. Also, he is not a very fast runner like Cam. Hope he proves me wrong.

I appreciate all the replies and thoughts. I don’t pretend to be an expert, but just form opinions based on what I have seen in games so far. Hope Whit and company can identify the problem areas and build toward correcting them. Go Utes!!

1. The Pass rush of the Ute’s front 4 hasn’t been adequate. Pressure, and Sacks are needed. I don’t know about O’Toole coming back for the next game, but even with him, I think Scalley is going to have to start using well disguised Blitz packages. It may allow a big play, but they have been gouged by letting the opposing QB have time to…[Read more]

After somewhat recovering from the hurt tummy of last night, I am going to chill and watch the Denver Utes play the Jets. Go Broncos! I am going to let the loss last night settle in, before I say anything negative about the team and coaches.

I love Covey and watch him every chance I get. He has been pretty durable through his college and first years of NFL play. He has established himself as a great punt return man, and now was starting to realize what I’m sure is a dream to play receiver in the NFL. That was a great play for a first down when he got hurt. He could always get that…[Read more]

OK, Dorian Singer! I like to be able to recognize players, but don’t get to see them without helmuts very often. Good to see Bernard and Snowden, and Singer getting some face time. I think we are lucky to have Bernard with some veteran experience supporting young Wilson.

BleedsRedUte started the topic Great win over the Cowboys, but one glaring problem? in the forum Football 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with the Defense early in the game getting off the field fast multiple times. I was fully prepared to watch the bend but don’t break for several downs before hopefully getting a stop.
They had a lot of help from the opposing QB, being terrible at deep passes, allowing them to basically defend the first 15…[Read more] -

This will be the first real test for Utah football. I am looking forward to this game to see if the 2024 Utes are as advertised.
The D line will have to pressure the Cowboy QB, and stop the run. Hope the LB crew and the backs and safeties start showing why they are so highly touted. I think Tao Johnson is another NFL bound player like Weddle…[Read more]
