I liked the way he prepared for the game and venue that he was reporting on. He could describe information on the school, the venue and surrounding area, and coaches and players. When he was assigned to a Utah game, he would describe the wonderful mountains and surrounding area that the “U” campus was located on. Rest in peace Bill.

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic RB room in the forum Football 10 months, 4 weeks ago
I thought they tried Miki Suguturaga once or twice last year on short yardage or goal line offense. I agree that there wasn’t anyone of the RBs that would be considered a strong short yardage guy, so if they can’t get someone in the portal, then maybe try one of the TE like Miki or Kuithe.

I think the Utes were improved this year and competitive. Not a good road team, otherwise we may have made the big dance with a few road wins and a better showing in the tournament.
I would like to see them play a few more games, and get a little extra experience for Keita and Lovering. Also, a the exposure for Carlson may help his pro…[Read more]

I remember the Air Force Academy football coach Fisher Deberry created a Hornets Nest when he stated they didn’t have enough black atheletes to compete with the other schools.

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic Keba Keita draft prospects. in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 1 month ago
One troubling part of Keita’s play so far is his fumbling of some passes, like he doesn’t expect it. They are basically running plays for him that if he were more surehanded he would have at least 3 more baskets per game. He goes against taller opponents and gets doubled, but he has to be more tenacious and sticky fingered when a pass comes near…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic Put on your coaching hat. Rotation going forward. in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 1 month ago
I agree about Smith getting the starting nod and the majority of the minutes. Its a bonus that Worster is a seasoned/experienced guard that provides a lot of depth. Keita has to get better at guarding without fouling, but as they keep getting better and feeding him down low, its hard to keep him out of the starting lineup.
I will be surprised…[Read more]

I went frugal on my last comcast renewal and don’t have the extra espn channels like espn+, news, U, so I will wait and hope that most games are on the basic channels. Darn, this change in conferences is affecting my pocketbook.

Anyone know when PAC12 Networks is set to shut down and whether the Big 12 network is going to be available in the West, and especially Utah. Also what packages and whether basic or higher cost premium packages of comcast, direct tv, etc. Hope there isn’t another situation where the companies don’t come to agreements and don’t carry the network.

Why was Erickson in the game at the critical last minute? He made several mistakes during the game, and he isn’t a great ball handler. He turned the ball over when double teamed in the final seconds.
Coach Smith must have thought he was the best option, and his athletic speed must be a factor. Hard to understand not using another player.

Great win! It looked like they were going to give it away in the last minute, but Keita made a great defensive play. It looked like the coaching staff has figured out offensive plays that utilize our size. Also, hope they keep up the same defensive effort going into pac12 play. Love that the Utes have ended the BYU winning streak and are…[Read more]

What do you expect from the game today?
I’m looking forward to seeing why the cougs are ranked where they are. Have they got some premium players that are showing really great or what?
Also, I want to see if our improved Utah Utes with Carlson, Madsen, and especially Keita can give them some competition.
I don’t expect a win, but I at least…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic So happy for Luke Bottari in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Yes, I think bottari, and Barnes, and all the players that help the team prepare for games, but may never see the field should have a special place in our hearts as Utah ute fans.
It was really great to see how proud bottari’s mom was, watching him get the start and playing so well.

BleedsRedUte started the topic Arizona game first quarter in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
That was the weirdest quarter to watch this season. I know the defense was racked by injuries, but the pass plays where the Az player was wide open with no Utah DB within 5 yards of him were hard to watch. Even the trick play should have had some coverage on the receiver who finally caught the ball.
The Utah DBs haven’t been extraordinary,…[Read more]

My son, who lives in Seattle, is a Utah alum and supporter. He just texted me he is leaving his West Seattle condo for the game. Should be a lot of Seattle Ute alums. Hope they are all at the game giving the Utes loud support. Go Utes!!

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic How’re you feeling about the UW game? in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I think our only chance is if Barnes shows another upgrade in performance after getting another live game under his belt and the full starter reps he is now getting. Also, the last game seemed to show a little better understanding of taking care of the ball and trying to eliminate turnovers. He still threw a couple of questionable passes last…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic Vaki and our receivers in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
Thanks for the responses! Very good information. But with the basic athletic goods that BB has (otherwise why recruit), why hasn’t Ludwig/qb coaches been able to see these shortcomings in things that can be improved, like reading the defense, looking off dbs, progression through the possible receivers, etc.?

BleedsRedUte started the topic Vaki and our receivers in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I couldn’t watch the first half and part of the second half, so I have some questions for those who were at the game and could see the whole field.
First, what happened to Vaki? He was the deciding factor in the USC game, but don’t understand not seeing much impact reported by for him on the Oregon game? If he didn’t play, I heard/saw nothing…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte started the topic Centering the ball for the winning field goal? in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
Anyone else wondering why they ran the play to center the ball?
I thought it was tempting all the things that could go wrong for very little pay back. Any mishandling of the Center to QB snap could squander away the 5 seconds of time, and leave the Utes with no chance to kick the winning field goal.
When Whit initially sent out the field goal…[Read more] -

Apologize if this has been covered, but why didn’t Pepa play? I heard nothing about an injury bad enough to keep him out when he was a starter in many games last season.
Also, why wasn’t Vele targeted more than once or twice? Was he double teamed to take him out of the offense? I thought he might be ready for a breakout season this year.
