I am in total agreement with you. I want Cam back as soon as possible. Barring a miracle There is no way Nate is going to do what Cam has and hopefully will do this year.
I’m just saying that in the absence of Cam Rising Nate is our starting QB. Until Cam returns He needs to take starter reps.

I think you’re right that Nate won’t get good enough to carry us to the CCG, but right now he’s all we’ve got. Cam is great but for one reason or another, he feels like he can’t play. I don’t know if that’s a physical or a mental reason, maybe it’s both.

I respect your opinion and hope to see Cam at the helm as soon as possible. I never advocated kicking him to the curb, but right now we have a young QB that needs to be able to utilize much more of the playbook to have a chance to be successful..

A couple more 1st downs would have made their desperation more frantic. Though not strictly necessary. We could have maybe even scored with a little more variation in the run game and maybe a pass or 2 on early downs.
I don’t think we were shortening the game much with all those 3 and outs. Thank goodness for our punter. He probably deserved the game ball.

Passing down the field is good, I think running a few running plays that are right up the middle would be a good idea.

Not that that may not be true, but I still think Nate Johnson has a more urgent need for those reps.

According to what Onlyu has said, Cam is physically ready to play. He apparently didn’t feel like he could against UCLA. I can’t be in Cams head to understand this but I can’t blame him for it. Hopefully he can get his psyche worked out and return soon.

When has Scalley’s or Whit’s defenses ever not tried to stop the run first and foremost?

The problem (and reality) is we are missing our Starting QB and 8 or 9 more. We are probably down to RB3 as a starting RB. We have managed to win our first 3 games on the backs of our incredible defense, but right now wiyh our offense there are several teams in the PAC that are probably better than we are.

It worries me a little that Cam may not play but is getting most of the reps, or even 50% of them as Coach Whit said Saturday after the game. If we don’

What we need at RB is someone that doesn’t go down on first contact or maybe better running plays than up the middle on 1st and 2nd down on 90% of our serries then passing or running it up the middle on the resulting 3rd and 6.
Being that predictable makes the opposing defenses job a whole lot more simple to plan for.

The problem was not calling the running plays, but the fact that 95% of them were up the middle with a back who is notorious for going down with first contact.

As much as I love Cam as our QB, I think if we aren’t sure he can play, he should be given QB2 reps and Nate should get the QB1 reps. Splitting them is not helping NJ if he has to start.
