Oregon needs a BS call to get thru for their only 1st half TD. What a surprise to wee Washington rolling them.

  • The regular season should flow seamlessly into the playoffs like HS with possibly a bye week. With the playoffs expanded to 12 teams there is little need for bowl games for P4 schools other than development at extra practices. The remaining need for bowl games is for the mid major teams other than the token conference champ included in the 12.…[Read more]

  • A big question for underclassmen players is becoming: which path is the best or quickest to get onto the field? Do they stay put and learn from 3 great LBers playing special teams? Or do they move looking for teams with open competition for unfilled starting positions? Stronger programs may require waiting while weaker programs might require more…[Read more]

  • The portal is interesting. It opens Monday yet it is already open. I think the portal is only for people that want a quick view, for those in the business the trading floor seems to be always open. Maybe it creates deadline for contracts but then as soon as it closes it is actually open again to set up for the next checkpoint closing date.

Give and take. Erickson does turn the ball over in pressure in some sets. However, the two man game he had going with Keita was something of beauty that we have not see for sometime. He sometimes looks lost but then he was the best part of what got us thru crunch time at the end. Next, how to get his benefits without having to eat his liabilities?

I agree with the idea of some rules. Currently there does not appear to be some interest in fairness by the big programs that would apply across the population. But to make it workable, the current D1 needs to have subdivisions because it does not make any sense at all for Utah State and Georgia to compete for the same football championship. So…[Read more]

  • The uncertainty is not great, clearly not at all enough to move on from Cam. Any transfer brings uncertainty as well. One question we all have is how good and how ready is Rose? Insiders know more about both than we do. I don’t think Cam’s return kills our chances at a transfer. Someone with two years, two to play or a junior with a redshirt, may…[Read more]

I always tell out-of-state skiers to tell all their friends the skiing in Colorado is great.

As I look at the LBers, Barton and Damuni weigh in the 240s. Reid is a starter exception weighing in the 220s. Medlock and Fotu are in the 220s. For LBers, Utah may prefer that they are bigger and Reid is an exception. Possibly, LBers that can’t get their weight up run a risk in our system if there are other LBers that are bigger.

    I get that it…[Read more]

  • We can over analyze this year but it may be best to move on. We have a great record for dipping down to QB5. I completely agree with the decision to recruit and try to develop NJ as a QB, it just did not develop a P5 QB. All great programs have QBs that do not develop. We spent zero time this year with QB1 or QB2. QB3 and QB4 did not do well…[Read more]

There are a bunch of players in his spot around the country. Somewhere I heard that they will get answers about December 1st. I can’t imagine why they can’t have a rule that quickly resolves this issue. They need to do a better job or get out of the way. It will drive people crazy if some do, some don’t with no rhyme or reason.

  • Often a team that can shoot simply plays fast and loose at the end can make a run. Good win against a good coach in part of the building process.

  • The skill players at CU were very athletic and extremely quick. They have some players that are as good or better than Oregon or Washington. What they don’t have is the whole package starting with linemen. They are a very unusual 4 and 8 team.

I think we will see the offense present more passing threats with the return of better QBs. Whitted has…[Read more]

  • When trying to shake off ankle problems, the first thing to return is straight line runs. Making sharp cuts return much later. I expect the bowl game is the first chance to seek Jackson as Jackson in some time.

  • Bowl prep is 15 practices, same amount as spring practice. The usual thing at Utah is development for 2s and 3s with conditioning and rest for the 1s, until the last week which is prep for the opponent. The opportunity to smooth out unseasoned starters is incredibly better than in the week to week in the season. Whoever trots out will be the best…[Read more]

While watching the game they were commenting on the best QBs this year. I had to think what a year it would have been if Herm had not screwed up and Daniels left ASU and Rising returned at Utah. It would have been quite a year to watch the Pac offenses. Somehow USC would have found a way to screw it all up.

  • It has been a strange year. Some fans get upset with uncertainty, if there is an optimistic goal but are not updated with changes more upset can occur. All this against a backdrop of HIPAA compliance. I always wondered about verbal approval as a defense if there is a complaint. I get that Whitt may not want to provide heads up on key positions and…[Read more]

  • The OL has had it’s issues as well with people coming and going. The one with the most impact is center. Last year’s center chose to leave when it was to become an open competition for ’23, it would have been nice if he would have stuck it out and improved the shotgun snaps. The planed starter never made it back onto the field. Bad news for the…[Read more]

If they were baking wedding cakes you can expect every one to turn out well. With college QBs or football development, one out of several may be the norm. The blue bloods get the sure things, the rest use the imperfect development process. As for NJ, he is still in the first half of his development which should not be viewed as crapped the bed yet…[Read more]
