Smith will help no doubt. He has awesome highlights from GT but it is interesting how much is steals and assists. He was not a point machine but plays good defense. Very nice addition. Wooster is not all Pac-12, however, we would be lost without him. Oddly, Erickson has shown the best flashes of entry passes but mostly to Kata. Not consistent but…[Read more]

At the top of the uncommitted list is Jericho Johnson a DL leaning toward Oregon, who would be an awesome get. Also Lamar Radcliffe who is leaning toward Utah is the short yardage RB we would love to have. Fonohema is also interesting.

The stadium is awesome, as good as the NFL gets. Next it is a short walk from a couple of places to stay and bars and restaurants. Not to mention casinos. Nice to have so much with little walking, put the car away when you arrive.

There remains still some uncommitted targets that will be good to see come in.

Charlie replied to the topic Asiata commits to BYU as expected. in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
It is possible to think because two schools offer an athlete that both schools are in an even competition. Something like we took a piece from USC because they also had a USC offer. In reality there are levels at each that are different. An athlete can be considered for a lead role considering who is in the program already and others in the class.…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic New beast running back! in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
We need a variety of backs. Some are physical with the first level. Others make teams defend in space beyond the first level in the run game. A defense often confronts one better than the other. Strange as it seems, some defenses prefer you try the power run game on them. Clearly, Woods is a different kind of back, a different kind of tool. Can’t…[Read more]

Sometimes our coaches find players before the recruiting sites catch up with new talent. They don’t need to hit every ball out of the park, they just hit more than other do. Yards after contact can transfer up.

Well, you are both right and wrong. You are correct the recruiting class is not done and Utah is often most active in the back end. That is because we mostly fill in after schools ahead of us in the picking order fill their key spots. There are a few exceptions.
However, you are wrong about this year. It is coming together more slowly than past…[Read more]

Nasty horse collar. Had to drag 38 the last 5 yards with that $hit.

It was hard to tell from the GT site that didn’t have much about this last year. Awesome to know he can help us. I hope he integrates quickly. Thanks.

Good grief. You would think the NCAA could grasp the landscape quicker than they see to be able.

Possibly a depth CB. I think you need starting experience to step into the Utah defense with one year to play. Who knows maybe Shaw can get him up to Utah defense level which I expect is above that at GT. We do need depth at CB.

Charlie replied to the topic Utah ranked 7th in 2024 preseason poll in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I agree on some points, other points maybe we should wait and see. I liked the Pac more than the Big 12 as well, better locations, but the Pac has had ups and downs they just had a great year last year. In other years each of Washington, Oregon, USC and UCLA have had years of little resistance. As for the Big 12, they are not the MWC. Year in and…[Read more]

At this point much is respect for the body of work over the last few years. Having a 6 year QB with the level of success Rising has had is very big. The defense will take care of itself. Adding Rising to the passing game and Bernard to the run game will make everyone on the offense more productive.

Charlie replied to the topic Timing on Kuithe Decision? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I think the team knows the way he is leaning and it is 98% done. It is a big decision for a college kid and he may be watching draft news and keeping all his options open for while. Myself, I prefer that football players wait for the team’s season to end to make announcements.

Charlie replied to the topic Why not start Rose? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
This is not a one or the other thing. Whitt can start Barnes to take a few drives. IF Rose is game ready with enough plays, he should/will come in. After several drives, if Barnes is the better QB that day, you can bring Barnes back later if needed. If we are winning let Rose finish up. There will be many other moving parts around them as lots of…[Read more]

The NCAA needs to be restrained for more than 2 weeks.
