I expect that recruits will look at more than ’23 to assess the Utah offense. Improvements from the QB is something that can be expected. It can’t be hard to imagine that Lud is more than happy to feed a receiver that can gain separation. Who would not be happy to provide what a fan base is hungry for?

Sure, I liked the old Pac 12 and the venues we could drive or fly direct to, but that is gone. Next, I think the Utah vs TCU rivalry will pick back up fast and match the best we enjoyed in the Pac. I also think Kansas St and any other contenders will become games of big interest. Last, because of the history, the game with the Y will be emotional…[Read more]

I was sick in September, was miserable for 10 days but multiple times tested negative for covid. At the same time a friend did have covid but had very few symptoms. I expect there is some flu going around that is in some cases worse than covid. It seems to be random what you catch and random what the impact will be. Good luck all.

  • Charlie replied to the topic Vele leaning… in the forum Football 10 months ago

Vele is older and that does work against him. However, this year was not the last year he needed to move to the NFL. Leaving now gives him the longest possible career, having a senior year with Rising gives him a better chance to get looked at. Since it is possible he may not have a year in the NFL, another year in college with NIL may just be the…[Read more]

  • To be realistic, there has not been much. Of course there is some when you are forced out of a conference into another.

  • Charlie started the topic Future OOC games in the forum Football 10 months ago

Utah has some work to do to patch up the future OOC games, especially ’26 and ’27 where we planned to play 2 Big 12 teams. Utah State also has games to schedule. I would really like to see maybe 3 games set up with them with 2 in SLC. The games hold so much more interest than other mid majors and Logan is an awesome easy road trip. I actually like…[Read more]

  • It will be interesting to see Cam in the spring. One mystery remains, has Cam become game ready? It is very possible this may have occurred after the Oregon loss and he and the coaches felt 2024 was of more value than the remainder of 2023. Either way I expect him to get lots of work in the spring without hits.

  • If you move down to QB4, lose the production we have had from the TE group, lose several options from the RB group, go without the starting centner and often become quite predictable, what do you get? You will see defenses attack the QB or the RB giving them no chance. You could bring in the Eagles OL and watch them struggle with these…[Read more]

  • Either way the level of difficulty is great. SEC teams build in 4 home OOC games they can fax a win in with. When they do play a P5 in an OOC game they are simply approaching the schedules in the Pac who often schedule 10 P5 games.

  • Actually college DCs spend a lot of time learning about the other side of the ball. That is why you see so many HCs innovate the other side of the ball relative to their experience. Networking can be done without the need to be on the same staff. Bouncing around can have its advantages but also has disadvantages. If I was Scalley, I would value…[Read more]

  • Charlie replied to the topic Lamar Radcliffe de-commit in the forum Football 10 months ago

Actually years ago in my day 105 scholarships were allowed. But the blue blood schools stacked up incredible depth on the bench. The number was reduced to 95 and later to 85. This was clearly better for college football making it easier for more schools to compete. I think 85 works well and now with NIL it is quite necessary.

  • With the Covid year you can’t just look at the class on the roster. You need to count the years of football without counting 2020 or any redshirt year.

I make it happen with Az and Utah. I pull for Az in all games except Utah.

Jordan would be an awesome get. Hopefully, his relationship with Becker makes a difference. I don’t know what NJ’s hands are like but as a slot receiver he would completely occupy the attention of a 1 high safety, which has many benefits. I also hope that Rising/Wilson/Becker will be attractive to other receivers in HS and the portal.

Week to week to week, it is so much easier with communication all across half the team and coaches to simply refer to numbers instead of names. With all the things going on as players rotate etc., a number can be validated quickly without thinking. I can only imagine Colo only know our QBs by 16 or 13. After a game you more likely hear a coach…[Read more]

The Utah defense is assignment based and those assignments are constantly changing. A LBer is used to receive defensive signals and/or call the defensive assignments. Barton getting hurt that process. Reid being out was the loss of the other experienced LBer. Bishop was involved with messages in the secondary. I am not sure how we started the…[Read more]

  • Charlie replied to the topic Fan support for Colorado game in the forum Football 10 months ago

I think part of the problem is the number of fans in the tailgate lot that are having a good time and wait to the last minute to walk to the stadium. Tickets on phones slow everyone down. Narrow concourse does not help. Need to get food and restroom lines out of the flow. Most of the mess is avoided by getting to your seat 15 minutes before…[Read more]

My goodness we get sensitive when we lose. It is nice when the team that is up takes a knee, but it is not required. I don’t struggle if a team plays to the last whistle, from behind or ahead. Goodness knows what Scalley was looking for when he missed a coach tapping his shoulder. Myself, I took respect from Az when they rushed the field like they…[Read more]

  • I agree. Recruiting results are high beta and hard to predict. If it was better science Georgia and Alabama would wonder how other schools get All Americans. As athletes move to college many blow away expectations while others fail related to expectations. The key is to get lucky more often than unlucky and have a development plan that helps…[Read more]

I agree. I did grad school in Tucson. The girls were attractive and wear beach attire to school until Thanksgiving. But if it is a party after party you are looking for, that is at ASU.
