  • I never cared for the guy, however, he was good at football. He needs someone else to communicate with the fan base. I can only imagine this will be good for New Mexico.

The reference to Title IX is not a criticism. I recognize it is a noble cause. However, to force college football to carry the burden makes it venerable to alternatives that do not require this. College football carries more than female sports, it also carries minor sports. As it relates to NIL, if you force participants in NIL to share equally…[Read more]

The bowl games are extremely valuable, night and day different than staying home. Don’t worry about Barnes getting the QB focus, it is a big team with dozens that take big steps in bowl prep. Spring practice gets a huge jump start following bowl prep. Don’t worry about the timing of the bowl, most of the brand building comes on TV, fans in the…[Read more]

So many problems with both proposals. Can you mandate equal pay for male and female athletes or football and minor sports when the market value for each is so different? I like female sports and feel they can grow organically independent of males and care should be taken so as not to incentivize crossover. Absence of caps will ignore one of the…[Read more]

  • I believe PWOs are recruited also, just not as hard. I think PWOs are allowed to eat with the team now so there is that much of a benefit, I think.

  • No doubt no one looks forward to those conversations. But the Pac 12 attempt that scholarships are 4 years had its own issues. It is also hard to retain staff that can’t complete tasks in an acceptable timeframe or quality but the criteria to let them go is difficult and time consuming. Problems both ways. Sadly, some will not find a spot in the…[Read more]

  • I am missing something, help me. It seems football players move freely, do basketball players have the same rules? Is Smith caught simply by a second move? Haven’t we seen football players make a second transfer? I wonder what the criteria is for a wavier that seems to come into play.

  • It would seem if you are in a program for 2 years and are not seeing the field in minutes of contested games, guys will reevaluate. There are great players in crowded rooms. There are guys that fall short of the requirement for the program. Some will be moving up, some will be moving down, each in pursue of more game minutes or greater challenges.…[Read more]

Will here you go. The Power 4 feel they can tear college sports athunder, however, that can’t happen from someone other than us. Actually, I agree with them.

  • We are already at the point that you need to recruit the athletes that will play over and over every year. Athletes that are in development will also have to be recruited every year once it becomes apparent development is going successful. Each year all will determine if there exist a path anywhere else than has advantages over the current path.…[Read more]

It is not laws that prevent a cap, it is done all the time in sports where their is understanding about why it is needed and most important it is agreed to by the administrators. Of course it may require something like making them employees. But the critical element is agreement at that administrative level. Given that agreement it would be easy…[Read more]

I agree, a NIL cap would work and is needed. However, the problem is with the programs with the most money are the ones you need for agreement. If the SEC and B1G did not support it it simply can’t happen. We may need stories about programs that spent more than they can sustain and didn’t get anything in return resulting in problems.

  • It is the best sell to someone with 2 years of eligibility.

  • Charlie replied to the topic Harlan in the forum Football 12 months ago

Not everyone is going to believe Utah was driving the decision process that day like we so often did. Let’s just go with someone in California thinks something that happened is someone else’s fault. Just because we were pushing them around in football it might be believable we bully them in the boardroom as well. Or maybe the folks that always…[Read more]

  • Goodness, it is Northwestern. I remember watching Utah let a win slip away with Northwestern in our last Holiday Bowl. I almost lost my life slipping on wet steel in the stadium that day.

  • Following Oregon to the Fiesta, I think Az will go to the Alamo Bowl. Next, I think Utah will be taken over USC and OSU for the Vegas Bowl. Who knows who will show up for USC and OSU has even greater problems wondering who is still there. Any guess who the other team could be?

  • Charlie replied to the topic Harlan in the forum Football 12 months ago

I think we have learned even hard agreements only last half way to the first opportunity.

  • Charlie replied to the topic Harlan in the forum Football 12 months ago

Actually he was probably one of the few with not much interest to protect. He can lean into the Pac interest to help a team that helped end the Pac and the Pac is months from being completely in history only. Probably hard to lean into the Big 12 to help a team that is leaving the Big 12 and his new home is full of strangers that were our active…[Read more]

  • We are very familiar with the Utah details of weak spots. However, comb thru the details of other lower ranked teams and you find similar stories. Than again, against a mid major schedule or any Liberty opponents, the last two games would be a cakewalk with no hint of weakness.

  • Part of the problem is ranking power teams with mid majors. The issue is the schedules are night and day different. We know that because we have been in both places and understand the difference. If the poll does not separate the two, simply do so yourself. Liberty may be the best mid major but still is not a D1 top 25. You would have the same…[Read more]
