Charlie replied to the topic Medlock transfer. in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
As I look at the LBers, Barton and Damuni weigh in the 240s. Reid is a starter exception weighing in the 220s. Medlock and Fotu are in the 220s. For LBers, Utah may prefer that they are bigger and Reid is an exception. Possibly, LBers that can’t get their weight up run a risk in our system if there are other LBers that are bigger.
I get that it…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic I'm not sure why people are so hard on ludwig concerning QB development in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
We can over analyze this year but it may be best to move on. We have a great record for dipping down to QB5. I completely agree with the decision to recruit and try to develop NJ as a QB, it just did not develop a P5 QB. All great programs have QBs that do not develop. We spent zero time this year with QB1 or QB2. QB3 and QB4 did not do well…[Read more]

There are a bunch of players in his spot around the country. Somewhere I heard that they will get answers about December 1st. I can’t imagine why they can’t have a rule that quickly resolves this issue. They need to do a better job or get out of the way. It will drive people crazy if some do, some don’t with no rhyme or reason.

Often a team that can shoot simply plays fast and loose at the end can make a run. Good win against a good coach in part of the building process.

Charlie replied to the topic Ending up 8-4 with all of our injuries ain't that bad. in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
The skill players at CU were very athletic and extremely quick. They have some players that are as good or better than Oregon or Washington. What they don’t have is the whole package starting with linemen. They are a very unusual 4 and 8 team.
I think we will see the offense present more passing threats with the return of better QBs. Whitted has…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Glover is the best back today. Almost has 100 yards on 14 carries. in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
When trying to shake off ankle problems, the first thing to return is straight line runs. Making sharp cuts return much later. I expect the bowl game is the first chance to seek Jackson as Jackson in some time.

Charlie replied to the topic Odds on Who Starts at QB for the Bowl Game? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
Bowl prep is 15 practices, same amount as spring practice. The usual thing at Utah is development for 2s and 3s with conditioning and rest for the 1s, until the last week which is prep for the opponent. The opportunity to smooth out unseasoned starters is incredibly better than in the week to week in the season. Whoever trots out will be the best…[Read more]

While watching the game they were commenting on the best QBs this year. I had to think what a year it would have been if Herm had not screwed up and Daniels left ASU and Rising returned at Utah. It would have been quite a year to watch the Pac offenses. Somehow USC would have found a way to screw it all up.

Charlie replied to the topic Wow, 2023 has been a crazy season in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
It has been a strange year. Some fans get upset with uncertainty, if there is an optimistic goal but are not updated with changes more upset can occur. All this against a backdrop of HIPAA compliance. I always wondered about verbal approval as a defense if there is a complaint. I get that Whitt may not want to provide heads up on key positions and…[Read more]

The OL has had it’s issues as well with people coming and going. The one with the most impact is center. Last year’s center chose to leave when it was to become an open competition for ’23, it would have been nice if he would have stuck it out and improved the shotgun snaps. The planed starter never made it back onto the field. Bad news for the…[Read more]

If they were baking wedding cakes you can expect every one to turn out well. With college QBs or football development, one out of several may be the norm. The blue bloods get the sure things, the rest use the imperfect development process. As for NJ, he is still in the first half of his development which should not be viewed as crapped the bed yet…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic New Wide receiver commit in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I expect that recruits will look at more than ’23 to assess the Utah offense. Improvements from the QB is something that can be expected. It can’t be hard to imagine that Lud is more than happy to feed a receiver that can gain separation. Who would not be happy to provide what a fan base is hungry for?

Sure, I liked the old Pac 12 and the venues we could drive or fly direct to, but that is gone. Next, I think the Utah vs TCU rivalry will pick back up fast and match the best we enjoyed in the Pac. I also think Kansas St and any other contenders will become games of big interest. Last, because of the history, the game with the Y will be emotional…[Read more]

I was sick in September, was miserable for 10 days but multiple times tested negative for covid. At the same time a friend did have covid but had very few symptoms. I expect there is some flu going around that is in some cases worse than covid. It seems to be random what you catch and random what the impact will be. Good luck all.

Charlie replied to the topic Vele leaning… in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
Vele is older and that does work against him. However, this year was not the last year he needed to move to the NFL. Leaving now gives him the longest possible career, having a senior year with Rising gives him a better chance to get looked at. Since it is possible he may not have a year in the NFL, another year in college with NIL may just be the…[Read more]

Charlie started the topic Future OOC games in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
Utah has some work to do to patch up the future OOC games, especially ’26 and ’27 where we planned to play 2 Big 12 teams. Utah State also has games to schedule. I would really like to see maybe 3 games set up with them with 2 in SLC. The games hold so much more interest than other mid majors and Logan is an awesome easy road trip. I actually like…[Read more]

It will be interesting to see Cam in the spring. One mystery remains, has Cam become game ready? It is very possible this may have occurred after the Oregon loss and he and the coaches felt 2024 was of more value than the remainder of 2023. Either way I expect him to get lots of work in the spring without hits.

Charlie replied to the topic Most overhyped teams in the PAC? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
If you move down to QB4, lose the production we have had from the TE group, lose several options from the RB group, go without the starting centner and often become quite predictable, what do you get? You will see defenses attack the QB or the RB giving them no chance. You could bring in the Eagles OL and watch them struggle with these…[Read more]
