  • Bernard entered the portal, came back, and was all in. I would say it depends on the individual but success may be less than the first time through guys.

  • It may be hard to gain that insight directly, however, if coaches let a key guy go without effort to retain them I begin to believe the coaches also see value in the change. The future QB leaving should leave signs that the coaches tried to retain the player. Because coaches don’t want to be know as someone to make negative aspects of a player…[Read more]

  • I think in today’s reality, players that do not break into their desired playing time consider a quick change. If you bring in a dozen portal players there will be lateral competition not just players behind you for minutes vacated by those ahead. If players that are not in regular rotation leave it is not the issue it once was. As for offensive…[Read more]

  • Well there is Becker and Ficklin who are freshmen. I expect the NM QB and likely another portal QB. Rising might stay for QB3 level NIL. That mix may just be better then this last year.

  • I don’t know that ASU so much pulled a rabbit out of the hat, Leavitt I think was a Y legacy kid. ASU brought in 3 QBs in the portal, had a derby, and came up with a good QB. They got 30 in portal I expect hitting their needs and moved quickly past Colorado with their star players. Scattebo was a rabbit out of the portal the previous year. Anyway,…[Read more]

  • Good view Miami, there may be more positives to this than negatives. I know nothing about the locker room but I think their may be some chemistry issues. The thing with Glover makes me wonder and the lack of a RB stepping up given the opportunity this year leaves me with unknowns in the RB room. The rumors around Wilson also make me wonder and the…[Read more]

  • Lots of talent on the defense line. These guys can assess well the chances to play next year. There are younger guys in the program and there is good talent coming in this spring. The DL will continue to be good.

  • Don’t get me wrong, I want more particularly on the offensive side, as much as anyone. I just don’t think is is as simple as slap leather and go out and get someone better. Other schools with greater resources want the very same solutions that we seek. Better is very difficult and the hoped for solutions carry a real chance of not delivering…[Read more]

I feel prep for next year starts with the OC. I would prefer we start high on the list of possibilities and work down rather than start in the middle which leads to coming up second a few times. We also need to understand that there are actually many schools with more resources than Utah. We also need to understand that there are also parts of the…[Read more]

  • I expect that so many of the great coaches have awesome offense numbers but have defensive numbers like Whitt’s offense numbers. I expect that very few have great numbers on both sides over a range of years like this. But we remember and note the coaches with great offenses, I suppose because most fans completely enjoy a 45 to 42 win. Whitt’s…[Read more]

  • Could be he did not want to play behind Damuni and Barton, two very good LBs. I am assuming Damuni gets a medical year.

Who is it that has the loop of a guy beating a dead horse?

  • The next step is what it has always been, what it is in any conference. We need to win consistently here before we have anything to say, before we have an opinion that can be taken seriously. Conference realignment was a reset, what once was is of little consequence. I guess you could call it unburdened by what has been. Goodness that sounds dumb.

  • I would think Utah will be a desired destination for portal RBs given our history and opportunity. I was wondering if Andrews is now preserving a RS year or if he is close to seeing reps. I would be shocked if we don’t have some very interesting new options for RB next year.

I expect that WR is a rebuild and will completely be a function of what…[Read more]

  • That may be the case or we need to come to grips with the brutal facts that we have gone thru so many QB in two seasons that have not allowed us to get in rhythm with a starting QB, surrounded with an unusual bunch of injuries of key players. The focus on responding has hurt the development in other areas like the secondary, the limit on offense…[Read more]

My dad enjoyed watching what other teams did offense and defense. How did we use our different pieces against other threats. Each week provided a different puzzle. He didn’t freak-out when the other side did something clever that worked. It was football entertainment much more than simply watching our team win. He enjoyed watching much like…[Read more]

  • Charlie replied to the topic Kuithe injury in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago

The first part of the contact simply looked like a push from behind which is illegal contact. The clip does not show the second half of the contact. The limp was after contact but I can’t be sure that is the single issue with the play since he leaves the frame continuing to run. Very likely the pre-existing condition made him more venerable to…[Read more]

Even more unfortunately, his brother Blake was his equal and took medical retirement from football due to injury I think his freshman year. With him as a DE we should have almost always had a Kuithe on the field. A great deal of talent from Katy Tx that did not make it past the injury bug.

  • Charlie replied to the topic Kuithe injury in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Also note that the contact that took him to the ground began long before the pass was thrown which clearly is a hold at the least. Kuithe had been on the ground for a bit before the ball entered the frame. A guess is the contact high helped him down but I suspect that stepping on his ankle was more likely to cause the injury.

There is so much that goes into winning football. Understanding of much of it is beyond most fans and a significant amount is beyond anyone that does not go to practice. However, it does boil down to winning. In the pool of very good coaches there are ups and downs. Very few consistently are up year after year with only small failures. Most all…[Read more]
