I still feel like we are guessing in-between assumptions. We don’t know what the surgeon told Cam or if he ever talked to Whitt. We don’t know who in the process maximized the expectations. We don’t know the timeline of discovery. We don’t know what actions were or were not taken related to the portal. We don’t know that Rose could not have simply…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic USC's Defense is a Dumpster Fire in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Whitt learned from Edwards, Mac, and Meyer but at the top of the list, I believe, was and is his dad Fred. He also played defense. Every football coach has a strength on one side or the other and it is often best for them to lean on another coach for the less familiar side. There are plenty of examples of great defenses winning championships but…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Kansas runs a similar offense to Utah in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
The same OL gets quite better as soon as Utah presents a run and pass threat. Have you ever seen a great OL when the offense is predictable?

Charlie replied to the topic Utah has only one senior on the starting defense in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
It will be interesting to see this year’s young CBs get into rotations. Ridcliffe might play defense. The portal or mission field could provide other pieces. Logan returns and I expect the defense will be very good again.

Charlie replied to the topic The weirdest part of seeing NJ play in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Against Cal NJ, with a healthy Jackson and Glover, and a game plan with him in mind, and a full week to practice off a bye, and others healthy like a healthy center could look very good and build confidence. I think we will see the majority of players that are to return this year play in this game.

Charlie replied to the topic Shocking News From John Canzano in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Goodness. Randall completely intimidated the other presidents to the point more than half voted to support his suggestion rather than vote what they knew was best. Next, how many people at the time would vote to accept less money than the Big 12? Last, USC and UCLA running to the B1G at the first opportunity and Oregon and Washington begging daily…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Cam Rising is the GOAT and a U Icon in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
You need to see a player play the games and be present to relate to the context of the day to take a stab at comparing different decades. You need an old timer that saw all of these QBs play. For context, Mitchell was very much a stud. You could consider them all 1a,1b,1c… All very good with different sets of strengths.

Charlie replied to the topic One thing seems clear to me, because there is no other logical option in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
I don’t know how much the MRI revealed, sometimes surgery changes the picture, reveals extent, plus or minus, or provides insight into additional damage. I am acquainted with surgery noting more than the MRI. If a timeline was known it could paint a picture we may not see now. And, I suppose, I tend to give the benefit of doubt to Whitt. I think…[Read more]

Do we know when that moment was? Was that moment a good time to begin action in the portal? Prior to the Rose Bowl, I wonder if Cam was already leaning towards returning for another year. Possibly, due to draft predictions, Cam gave Whitt reason to feel he had a 2023 QB. I just think Whitt would have been looking at the portal if he felt Cam was…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic What has happened is now past history. How do we move on? in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
I have been paying attention to how often other schools in the conference, with more resources, much higher up the ladder of expectations of success, have completed national searches and brought in coaches at the top of disgruntled fan lists only to see them fall short of what Whitt is doing. I am very confident that Whitt’s time to go will be…[Read more]

I think we are in a pit of assumptions that can make us look like the blind men and the elephant. We are guessing what was known when. When did the doctors know the extent of the injury, before during or after? If and when the LA doctor had assessment that got all the way to Whitt? When was it apparent that Rising would miss 5 games? When was this…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Would Cam and Brant be eligible to come back next year? in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Both have earned my respect. If next year became the only option and they wanted to play, I don’t have an issue. Clearly, in development and recruiting we should never count on it.

Charlie replied to the topic Utah's Offense is Worse Than Expected in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
I agree, Rising’s return is not likely. If it could happen I think it would be our best outcome. Because of that I understand why everyone is hopeful. Something has made Cam interested in practice and coaches consider the possibility. It could all be wishful thinking because it is such a good option. If that is not possible come this week I do…[Read more]

Bringing back an elite experienced QB will solve that problem. Next best, complete focus on the current QB options will greatly solve much of that problem. I expect we will upgrade to one of these two solutions coming out of the weekend. If Johnson’s playbook is no complete, we need to make sure there is plenty of TE options in the part he will…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic If Cam was to play – how much difference would it make? in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Cam, much like other seasoned elite QBs, would make quite a difference. Not only the QB decisions and passes, but the RBs would look incrementally better, also the WRs, also the OL. I feel a basic football fundamental, for all positions defense and offense, is to create a second or two of making others expect A when you plan to do B. This is true…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic NIL Announcement Tomorrow in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
It is a wonderful thing that you can choose to give where you feel it is best. You probably would not be open to strangers telling you what you should do related to giving. Part of giving is freedom to support the cause you personally want to support. Some will choose to build a stadium, some will support a specific department at the university,…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic NIL Announcement Tomorrow in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Seems all good. The wonderful thing is people with money actually get to do something that is of their choice. My guess most of those that contributed also give to many other causes and likely give more than those that question their choice. It is important that no one comes to expect giving from others.

Charlie replied to the topic Who do you watch Utah football games with? in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
It is all easy for me. My wife has been to many road games and bowl games in addition to home games. Her interest level is less than mine but does not ask stupid questions because we got those out of the way when my sons played little league and high school football. I have tickets to home games with my sons and often watch road games with friends…[Read more]
