Awesome idea. It is not so much that I want Barton, I want to give the TE group a lift. McClain has the advantage of spending time in the TE group, however he is very light for the position which is likely why he returned to the WR group. Lets try it.

My temptation may be because the USC defense was so venerable to TEs in our games last year. It is hard to not repeat what worked so well. USC could have focused on that however, to date Utah has not given them any reason to have concern. TEs are so important to Utah’s offense I expect the backups would have had more targets if they could have…[Read more]

Yes, I know. But do you realize he has been playing this year. I think it is not as noticeable because he has gotten better.

I think the answer to why is injuries first, and second need came before development could deliver. If Kuithe and Jassmin were playing this discussion would not take place. Same if Bernard and Curry were available.

Maybe Barton has taken TE reps in practice since the bye week when Jassmin was injured but you first see him against USC.

A big part of the Utah offense is the TE and I know Utah would like the option to run 12 and 13 packages. With the season ending injury to Yassmin and with Kuithe still recovering, Utah is not only running without the numbers to make these packages viable but also without a feature TE. This speaks volumes to both the run and passing game. Could it…[Read more]

In 2021 Utah brought in Parks from HS and Pledger and Curry as transfers. Every reason to believe that was a good RB group. 2022 brought Glover from HS and no transfers. I don’t recall when Thomas transferred in. 2022 was impacted by Thomas. 2023 was impacted by Jackson moving over to RB. No reason to think 2023 was to have a RB issue, Curry was…[Read more]

I think the likely next step would be a college headliner with very good NIL. The next challenge is to keep it going against top competition when they also see him coming. A preseason all Big 12 would then begin to set the table for great NFL options.

  • I agree, Wilson spending a year with Rising is a best case scenario. Of course, no one wants more week to week mystery about the QB position but that risk would be minimal and no more than any other situation.

  • Of course it is nonsense, the libertarian part of me wants to make my own choice about eating skittles at a football game. Just injecting a bit of humor. However, if you want to know why gas cans are hell to use without spilling and people sneak the old ones in from Canada, you can thank California. I really don’t know if prevailing attitudes in…[Read more]

Never judge an OL if the offense is predictable. Don’t compare them to other OLs that are not predictable. They absolutely count on the advantage of knowing run or pass in the first second or two while the DL does not. If you are not sure, visit practice and watch the difference when the play is called out for both to hear. The OL will naturally…[Read more]

  • May be the Californian influence. They would also like to ban you from eating skittles while you watch football or do anything else. In California there seems to be an interest to regulate over the top, more than anywhere else in the nation. Four schools is influence.

Pittman was always a long shot to see if his health would hold up.

I saw that as well. Not surprising for someone with few starts and in and out of games. Good news, Barnes is at the early point where game to game can see good improvement. Hopefully he can build some rhythm.

  • I agree, I go the the U games and watch the Az games. I also watched several USC games this year. USC was better last year. In addition, teams are learning how to defend Williams in Riley’s plan. USC will be easier than Oregon, Washington and OSU. But the randomness of football has a high beta so uncertainty plays a part. I think the key is to…[Read more]

  • Number of starts too few for conclusion. We do need a QB Lud is comfortable asking to air out some passes. He does need to make his decisions quicker when out of the pocket and have some eyes downfield. I told my son, coach needs to tell him not to look at the ground and simply assume it is always under his feet. I like the guy but worry about the…[Read more]

Whitt also pointed out that with 90+ appeals, the Pac has never overruled a targeting call.

I agree but I was expecting to see some NJ. As a wildcat I would expect him to be more of a threat to pass than most.

Well, in Utah the TDS fans were quite excited about their first Big 12 win and now fully expect them to win the majority of the rest this year. Another view would note that they beat a fellow mid major in transition and may find it difficult to collect a win against a seasoned Big 12 team.

  • I’ll take umbridge since I saw it differently. Bishop was playing the bang-bang tackle not the ball. He hit the receiver with his back that was closer to his but than his head it seemed. A receiver’s head flops with a hit even when the head is not contacted. Oddly, Bishop glanced off him without great contact. 100% of the time that would not be…[Read more]
