Charlie replied to the topic If Cam was to play – how much difference would it make? in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Cam, much like other seasoned elite QBs, would make quite a difference. Not only the QB decisions and passes, but the RBs would look incrementally better, also the WRs, also the OL. I feel a basic football fundamental, for all positions defense and offense, is to create a second or two of making others expect A when you plan to do B. This is true…[Read more]

It is a wonderful thing that you can choose to give where you feel it is best. You probably would not be open to strangers telling you what you should do related to giving. Part of giving is freedom to support the cause you personally want to support. Some will choose to build a stadium, some will support a specific department at the university,…[Read more]

Seems all good. The wonderful thing is people with money actually get to do something that is of their choice. My guess most of those that contributed also give to many other causes and likely give more than those that question their choice. It is important that no one comes to expect giving from others.

Charlie replied to the topic Who do you watch Utah football games with? in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
It is all easy for me. My wife has been to many road games and bowl games in addition to home games. Her interest level is less than mine but does not ask stupid questions because we got those out of the way when my sons played little league and high school football. I have tickets to home games with my sons and often watch road games with friends…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Cam's future return in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
I am thinking Cam really wants to play this year. Currently, the best on ramp is the Cal game. I expect him to play even at the ready point he was at when he played at Oregon. He could take a game to get with it after being out, like last year, and the Cal game is the best on the schedule for that. The next several weeks, not at all as good for a…[Read more]

Loosing the kid from Turkey was sad, we could make it easier for foreign players to come in. Next, we really need to see Smith get the green light to play. With Smith I think we can take some steps this year. Bajema slayed us last year so it is great to have him on our side this year.

6’2″, 200+lbs, and smart is just the material Scalley wants to work with for safety. He can come in and start by learning form the best.

Charlie replied to the topic So what would you do if your were the coach? in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
I think coaches are less risky with NJ when he is the only serviceable QB. I think we will see conservative play calling if there is no backup QB that has had reps. The bye week allows us to work on the team without a concern for preparing for an opponent. Hopefully, we have two weeks of practice for what will be game time QB1 and QB2. The same…[Read more]

Utah has their issues to overcome. However, USC has no reason to feel they will run the table. Oregon and Washington has their own challenges coming up with games they are favored in but can let slip like last year. All these teams have each other to play. No one can fax wins in they have to go out and play the games. Much like the last two years,…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Kuithe in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Unfortunately Kuithe and Rising need to speak for themselves otherwise anyone can fill the empty space with anything. Double unfortunately, it just is not the Utah thing to update everyone on injury return details. Will this downtime be an adventure or can it be a common bye week?

Do we know Cam lost the locker room? I get that many, including Cam, want him to shit or get off the pot. It may be possible for him to make everyone feel that way without losing them. However, everyone including Cam, I think, feel we would be better off with him on the field. But to your point, this can be the case at some point in time.
I don’t…[Read more]

Let me explain why I resist panic about the football team. I grew up in Provo and watched closely the BYU program from the 50s on in a big part because many of my family are fans of their program. I watched the Y achieve success beyond what became my choice at the U. Through all that success and with a very good coach, the Y fans struggled…[Read more]

Good grief. Last time to hear from Kuithe he had the bad cold that has been going around, the 10 day to 2 week thing that is awful. If I take him for his word I would expect the last thing the football team needs is anyone that is sick with the team.

Charlie replied to the topic UW – Arizona in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Actually there was more in common with the two seasons. I was lucky enough to attend most games each year including the bowl games. Both teams had uncommon QBs that fans come to trust completely regardless of score. Both teams could bit you with anyone across the depth chart. Both teams could shapeshift a game plan. But yes the 2004 offense was…[Read more]

As it relates to high end QBs… as I watch LSU vs Old Miss those are two quality QBs that Utah had or should have had a good chance at.

I think we can assume with confidence that the coaches approach every day of practice making the best prep they can with the information known at the moment. Also the information known by those at practice is much greater than that observed by fans. Coaches plan for what promises the best outcome. Unfortunately, that does not always work out. They…[Read more]

I won’t panic. What ranked team would not be in disarray if they lost all the QBs and RBs off the 2 deep roster, their best pass catcher, best DE, and so many other players off the regular rotation? The injuries have given us a loss. I feel I need to wait and see what Utah does with the break, they have another week before they prep for Cal which…[Read more]

I think Rose and Mack are QBs with a potential. I think NJ is a great athlete with a high ceiling. But it has been a few years without a high end QB. Wilson does look to be a high end QB. The top programs do bring in a high end QB almost every year and generally have more than 1 on the team. I expect the portal will be looked at to find an upper…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Way Ahead for Utah Football in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
It can be surprising how little things can be the difference between wheels coming off and being competitive. Utah’s opening drive stalled on a 4th down, OSU’s drive converted the easy 4th down. Broughton’s missed tackle on 4th and 10 could have turned the start completely around but instead gave OSU important momentum. I also think the injuries…[Read more]

Spence is very good at conversation but struggles with thoughts different than his while he tries too hard to be source of guidance. He will tell you he is a Utah fan but he is a very long way away from being confused as a homer. Bill leans into the homer role. Both seem to be paid by the word and both could allow their guests more time to speak.…[Read more]
