  • There is not just one. McBride changed the direction of football in the biggest way, Meyer added speed to that change and Whitt has kept it moving. McBride was the game changer. Gardner changed the direction of basketball, Pimm and others added speed to that change and Majerus took it to the top. Hill was an administer that was a good as any in…[Read more]

  • Marv was before all these position awards and was in a tier by himself.

  • This is very good news.

  • In addition, I think a few transfers will figure in by the end of the season. If Pittman get healthy that will be noticed. Battle does have promise as does Logan Fano. Damuni may fill in like Reid last year where his best games come down the last stretch. Love to see Becker win games for us. Of the bunch, Pittman, I think, has the highest ceiling…[Read more]

I don’t worry about this because the coaches do. I remember an interview with Peterson from TCU where they questioned his strategy to recruit a high number of HS QBs and RBs. It came up when he had a DE that became an AA but was a HS QB or RB. He explained in Texas most often the best 2 athletes on the team are the QB and RB regardless of their…[Read more]

  • I think the ranked Pac teams have about the same chance of wining the championship with the exception of UCLA. UCLA has to way outperform last year to have a chance. USC is slightly higher due to their unique ability to attract transfers of a high level. Utah also is slightly higher due to their recent success over a couple of years. Oregon is…[Read more]

  • If we develop a dominating LT, the OL could be that group. The DL also has guys to potentially fill out the 2 deep roster with starter quality. Both require expectations to round out in fall camp but the potential is there for our lines to be very good. If so, all the other groups will have more production.

  • I agree, Rising’s health will impact every game but Weber St. We need him at his highest level but that most comes into play in the USC, Oregon, Washington stretch. That then makes QB2 important. A home run would give us a QB that comes on as well as Rising did in ’21. Any QB2 would be a mystery to Florida, Baylor would get a heads up, for Weber…[Read more]

  • Errol Tucker is the only college football player I know of who’s play demanded the creation of a new All-American position, kick returner, because of how he impacted football games? I remember games at Utah where the crowd came most alive, much louder by far, every time the other team kicked the ball. Long returns were almost completely…[Read more]

  • Unique and recognizable uniforms would be nice but I agree, we have only a fraction of the history as a national program as do the big names. We could focus on branding as the primary objective. However, I believe currently we involve the players a great deal with the directions taken and always with the choice of options game to game. I think…[Read more]

  • A play I will remember for a long time was one in the video where TT gets the ball, stops for a couple of shuffle steps waiting for the pulling guard to de-cleat an inside stunt from UCLA, waits for the pulling TE to run thru the hole, then following after for a TD.

  • The 60 in 60 will not make sense as they try too hard to balance out Utah and the Y. As the Utah offense picks up I expect to see more RBs and WRs get into the 500 to 800 yard range as opposed to a leader getting much beyond 1,000. I prefer spreading the ball around more than a go to guy. Utah’s QB will not lead the Pac in yards because of the…[Read more]

  • I do know that way back in the McBride days most teams did not rotate Dline much and Fred Whitt Sr was an early adopter of rotating Dline. Kyle of course used and refined all Fred’s Defense basic points. The Polynesian pipeline was a part of that and it requires a shift of a couple of roster positions. Fred said it kept the line fresh and was…[Read more]

  • I am trying to remember if Fillinger had issues before he went out of the lineup? We were doing ok on the Dline with everything but contain on broken plays when the QB runs after a delay. But we expect to be a leader in sacks. I like the sacks but I prefer contain gets improved first. I would be happy for pressure in the middle and Pepa could help…[Read more]

I think We have answers for those that left and weaker points moving into next year. But I am anxious to see the improved depth. As we go game to game the ability to play options at key positions to create matchup problems or to respond to matchup problems created by the other team, can be effective. It feels like we don’t just have a guy at key…[Read more]

  • I had not watched lady Ute softball before this year, oddly I watched this team more than I have the NBA playoffs and have enjoyed them more.

  • Money, or higher value will push conferences to create the best possible lineup. This has already been hell on regional rivalries, no reason it can’t also put pressure on internal relationships. If the Big 12 and Pac 12 could have dropped 2 off the bottom and add 2 that were better, possibly they could have retained their headliners. I think to…[Read more]

  • I expect that we are already better than last year but injuries will always suck when starters miss games. Marco was awesome in the paint and with rebounding, however, last year the scouting reports figured out there was no need at all to guard him outside the midrange and that impacted his value a bunch. Keba will come along improving each year…[Read more]

  • The process is good for development. Pressure to perform under a spot light. Opportunity to measure related to other very good QBs. Not a guarantee but a positive step in development. I hope every Utah player develops as far as possible every year.

  • I think the answer is simple if you have spent time with football teams evolving over multiple years. It depends greatly on this year. Many surprises will pop up where suddenly you have much more than you thought in a player. Many disappointments will pop up where a player’s development just is not as good as expected. These kind of developments…[Read more]
