  • Unique and recognizable uniforms would be nice but I agree, we have only a fraction of the history as a national program as do the big names. We could focus on branding as the primary objective. However, I believe currently we involve the players a great deal with the directions taken and always with the choice of options game to game. I think…[Read more]

  • A play I will remember for a long time was one in the video where TT gets the ball, stops for a couple of shuffle steps waiting for the pulling guard to de-cleat an inside stunt from UCLA, waits for the pulling TE to run thru the hole, then following after for a TD.

  • The 60 in 60 will not make sense as they try too hard to balance out Utah and the Y. As the Utah offense picks up I expect to see more RBs and WRs get into the 500 to 800 yard range as opposed to a leader getting much beyond 1,000. I prefer spreading the ball around more than a go to guy. Utah’s QB will not lead the Pac in yards because of the…[Read more]

  • I do know that way back in the McBride days most teams did not rotate Dline much and Fred Whitt Sr was an early adopter of rotating Dline. Kyle of course used and refined all Fred’s Defense basic points. The Polynesian pipeline was a part of that and it requires a shift of a couple of roster positions. Fred said it kept the line fresh and was…[Read more]

  • I am trying to remember if Fillinger had issues before he went out of the lineup? We were doing ok on the Dline with everything but contain on broken plays when the QB runs after a delay. But we expect to be a leader in sacks. I like the sacks but I prefer contain gets improved first. I would be happy for pressure in the middle and Pepa could help…[Read more]

I think We have answers for those that left and weaker points moving into next year. But I am anxious to see the improved depth. As we go game to game the ability to play options at key positions to create matchup problems or to respond to matchup problems created by the other team, can be effective. It feels like we don’t just have a guy at key…[Read more]

  • I had not watched lady Ute softball before this year, oddly I watched this team more than I have the NBA playoffs and have enjoyed them more.

  • Money, or higher value will push conferences to create the best possible lineup. This has already been hell on regional rivalries, no reason it can’t also put pressure on internal relationships. If the Big 12 and Pac 12 could have dropped 2 off the bottom and add 2 that were better, possibly they could have retained their headliners. I think to…[Read more]

  • I expect that we are already better than last year but injuries will always suck when starters miss games. Marco was awesome in the paint and with rebounding, however, last year the scouting reports figured out there was no need at all to guard him outside the midrange and that impacted his value a bunch. Keba will come along improving each year…[Read more]

  • The process is good for development. Pressure to perform under a spot light. Opportunity to measure related to other very good QBs. Not a guarantee but a positive step in development. I hope every Utah player develops as far as possible every year.

  • I think the answer is simple if you have spent time with football teams evolving over multiple years. It depends greatly on this year. Many surprises will pop up where suddenly you have much more than you thought in a player. Many disappointments will pop up where a player’s development just is not as good as expected. These kind of developments…[Read more]

  • I think we are covered position by position but I am thinking about the QBs in the league. DL that demand a double team is key to speeding up these QBs. DE that can rush and contain is key. Good schemes for handing off contain to a LB making edge control unpredictable is key. I think we are set up for this, I hope we are good throughout all the…[Read more]

  • With the addition of Smith and if Brandon return next year, the basketball team could already be better than last year. As I look at the portal, there seems to be multiple options at each position that could really help our team. Could coach have had a plan to be patient and shop in May? I think it is quite likely that we will have upgrades for…[Read more]

I don’t know the need. I was thinking, how much did we know about Rising before he took over for Brewer? The buzz wasn’t that strong and we had no idea at all that a two or three time conference champion was walking thru the door. If Rising is not on the field, we do have two chances to find the next guy. At this point, it may be asking too much…[Read more]

  • It seems to be another option in a spot coach was concerned with. We want to play the best two of several and have 2s and 3s that are as ready as all possible.

  • So true. In the 70s you needed a good plan to get into a BB game. For FB students needed only to show up at game time and 2 students could enter with a camp cooler that took two seats.

A good long ball WR is of course a good get. However, the recent Dnews article about Utah defense points out a great need noting the 5 very good QBs Utah will face in the last 6 games. In that stretch we will be able to use every minute of great edge contain and QB pressure. I think we are currently very well prepared, but those last 6 games could…[Read more]

  • Very good, much needed news for BB fans. Now, back to work on the other scholarships to fill. Another wing player?

  • I get player safety, just wish they could do it without reducing the desired product which is plays to watch. Next would be shorter hot dogs to help our health without reducing costs?

  • Don’t know how #3 works yet. It would have to consider a long play like a 80 yard gain (time for everyone to move down the field) and time to determine if it is a first down that can take time even without bringing the chains in. I wonder why the change here? Wanting to move the game along is one thing, giving the sideline time to respond to the…[Read more]
