Charlie replied to the topic New NCAA football rules – Coach Whitt weighs in in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Don’t know how #3 works yet. It would have to consider a long play like a 80 yard gain (time for everyone to move down the field) and time to determine if it is a first down that can take time even without bringing the chains in. I wonder why the change here? Wanting to move the game along is one thing, giving the sideline time to respond to the…[Read more]

I think Utah’s offense will be very good and do that with maybe no all conference first team selections in the end. Not because they don’t have anyone good enough, it will happen because there are so many weapons at all the spots. The offense can rotate without drop-off. No one leading in passing, receiving, or rushing but the offense will keep up…[Read more]

I was quite impressed with his interview, seems to really have it all together. I noted that he loves to go get the 50/50 ball and loves to go over the top. Seems to be a made to order get for Utah. I did not realize he and Cam went back so far. Yes, he was sure he would be ready for Florida.

I think injuries are a big part of the story. Possibly, the surgery he had he has been avoiding. If it is successful and follows the timetable expected, it is likely he can help us. If Whitt, who has more to go on, approves it, that is good enough for me.

Sanders can recruit and draw athletes in, no doubt. I suppose he can win at the lower level by bringing in some athletes that could play at a higher level. The next challenge is to win at the power level where it will be difficult to have a player advantage. Will he have the patience to try, learn, adjust, improve and grow which all takes time?…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Kuithe is not getting a lot of love in 2024 draft projections in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Yes, Kuithe is a tweener that we have always called a TE. He is a slot receiver that is bigger than most that can slide in and be helpful blocking at the end of the line, better than most SRs but less effective than most TEs. The pass catching TEs in the NFL are bigger. Note that there is not a shorter or lighter TE in Utah’s room. I would think…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic One thing I want this upcoming football season in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
It is a bit more complex. If you have heard Whitt talk about flipping the field or flip a game, you know he understands well the value in the return game but he also believes everything starts with a secure ball. A turnover in the kick return is double bad, a turnover and loss of field position.
Whitt always wants what he doesn’t have and he…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Just watched Kincaid's highlights against USC in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Actually, too many moving parts for me to know. Both players were on good improvement planes. Use of the TE was evolving in the Utah offense. QB play was refining that part of the play. They only played together for a year which was Kincaid’s first at Utah. Without being at practice and seeing the isolation of the single variable of the player…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Just watched Kincaid's highlights against USC in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Yes, when Kuithe went down, Kincaid became the featured TE in pass patterns. When Kuithe comes back he will return to that spot. When they played together, Kuithe had the edge, however, Kincaid progressed a great deal over his two years here. I expect the TE group to not miss a beat. Kuithe will be the primary route runner, Yassmin will be the…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic I wish Clark Phillips would have played in the Rose Bowl, Kincaid too. in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
It is a very thin line. Players and coaches want the yards and points to support the best possible position. Late in a game after control has been gained is tough. Do you take a break and risk the guy behind you passing your numbers. Or do you take every opportunity and risk injury when you may be tired. In Kincaid’s case at Colorado looking back,…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Two years in a row – the Utes have a 1st round pick in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
It would seem most Utah first round picks do not start their last season expected to be first round. That is just not the view from back east. Kuithe has the best chance if he simply builds on his 2021 season. Rising can add to his value by being healthy at the end of the year. If he has a winning record against the other top QBs in the Pac, 4…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Recruiting highly rated QBs that don't know how to play QB in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Guessing…
It is part of FB that starts in HS and before. The best 2 FB players on a team will play QB and RB unless the body type is clearly lineman. As the best move on to college there will be position changes. Peterson at TCU once talked about how he preferred HS QBs and RBs for all the skill positions and more. He could even turn them into…[Read more]

Lots of lower ranked players but the two WRs are the highest ranked of the bunch. Neither was offered by Utah prior. Could help someone with depth.

Cards before a terminal with a line editor was something by itself since few had keyboard skills. Making changes to cards quickly that did not have printed characters was an acquired skill.

Charlie replied to the topic Coach Whit interview on ESPN 700 in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
The odd part of that is we ended the season expecting Rising to go to the NFL. I would have expected the QB room to roll in a starting QB with a bit more ease. Nate’s spring injury impacted that but for now it becomes big that we get Cam back onto the field. Summer workouts and fall camp might change that but more work needs to be done to get…[Read more]

My first work computer was a GE605. It had 100K of internal memory in an 8 foot diameter rotating drum with visible memory tiles. My first home computer was an IMSI 8080 with 56K of internal memory. Seems small but remember that is OS, programs and data in that space. I shared this with my brother who wrote a complete suite of financial software…[Read more]

Oh yes, the classics, Science Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Business. In the very early years computer science was in the Math dept. An awesome lady, Grace Hopper, finally got her idea of an English based compiler reliable and now the ability to code approaches the ability to read and write in the 17th century.
