  • Washington and Oregon likely have no options related to the next GOR. The media deal requires it, if they don’t agree others move on which would leave them waiting while screwing their sister schools over long term. They will likely hit the fork in the road before the B1G gets serious about more expansion. The two new Cali schools are open…[Read more]

  • It is real important to win a game or two to preserve the momentum we had in the first part or the season. Need to see the return of Carlson and Madsen scoring.

  • I don’t mean to belabor this but I don’t see an issue of motivated to be educated, I see an issue of survival for our kids. In an old world of manual labor some workers were better than others, maybe twice or three times better for stronger or more skilled workers. In the new world involving tech now it is common for some workers to be 20 or 30…[Read more]

  • I think the only issue that will create problems is the commitment of Oregon and Washington. I expect that they realize that their opportunity to move to the B1G has passed for this round. The best strategy to get to the next round of alignment is clearly a healthy Pac. This is absolutely true for their sister schools that are tied to them much…[Read more]

  • EagleMountain does highlight a real issue. College sports likely evolves to a lower pro league separate from schools, as an example a farm league to the NFL. Universities need to get their act together and do better at preparing students for an actual job. Student loans are an issue because of degrees that are unrelated to jobs or in numbers…[Read more]

  • I think you need to consider where Smith started from. When he came in most the players were gone and he had to put together a team after recruiting was mostly complete. First year was simply saving a team from falling off the dock. This year he brought in as many good new pieces as anyone else in the conference that is not Az or UCLA. But the…[Read more]

Cam was at the women’s BB Saturday on crutches courtside. I wonder what the timetable is when getting off the crutches? I do know I like his attitude related to getting ready to go as soon as possible.

As a complete guess… I have heard both coach K previously and coach Smith talk on and on about defense first with rebounding and ball handling on par with taking good shots. With that I have really like the way we have been playing defense. I brought up coach K because last night reminded me how Plummer did not get minutes until late in the…[Read more]

  • Johnson and Rose have been with us a year and I am anxious to see NJ with more playing time. Howard is here for spring practice as well. Barnes played better when he got starter reps thru the week and was not playing against a top 10 team. We do have options. I expect there will be a guy coming out of spring with a lead on QB2 ready to go,…[Read more]

  • You may not realize that last year, Smith’s first without a chance to recruit, Utah was third in the Pac 12 in attendance for men’s BB. College basketball attendance is down almost everywhere. Not many schools anywhere can catch UofA.

Given where we were I have been happy with Keita and Exacte as freshmen. I expect that will develop just fine.…[Read more]

I think the Big 12 GOR runs to June ’25. I never heard a change or noted a new one was done. If so they have some stress coming up to see if a school moves. Also the Pac needs to get everyone to sign one. If Oregon and Washington was to move slow they could be left out waiting for the BIG which might not happen. They would also condemn their…[Read more]

Andy is 58, he may want to finish in the place he wants to live. Don’t know if that is Utah or somewhere else. He may want to make a big splash in his last job, maybe ND does that. At ND he may only be there as long as the HC is, that may or may not be long enough. At Utah he likely can plan to stay longer assuming that is what he wants. I…[Read more]

  • Charlie replied to the topic Impact freshmen 2023? in the forum Football 1 year, 11 months ago

I feel impact can come without being a starter. I have always felt Whitt understands playing 2s when they become very close to the starters. He has always done this with the DL, throughout the D and RBs. Understanding it is a long season and there is considerable wear and tear it makes sense to substitute when possible. Better depth provides…[Read more]

  • I think we are quite set on S and LB. Ritchie and Bishop match any safeties we have ever had and Vaki looks to become special as well. Three awesome players for 2 spots. Barton, Reid and Damuni may also give us 3 starters for 2 positions. We missed Fillinger the last part of the season, I think his return with O’toole, Ellis and Fano…[Read more]

  • Awesome that with everything you have to do you also do this for us. Thank you for your service.

  • Charlie replied to the topic Walker Lyons commits in the forum Football 1 year, 11 months ago

Clearly we would have loved to have him commit to Utah. However losing him to USC is much like losing someone to TCU in 2011, we lost him but they are no longer a rival. He will have zero impact on their last year in the Pac. With the mission this is like a commitment from a sophomore or junior in high school, there is still a long time to go.…[Read more]

  • The Pro Bowl is an odd outdated thing and more odd than all star games in the NBA MLB. Because of the level of physical play I think football players do not like meaningless games more than other athletes. The game is outdated, we need to find a way to recognize the best players without a game. We don’t need All Americans in college to have a…[Read more]

  • I am good with some ski team update.

  • In the 70s I remember as students standing in line for half a day to get a good seat at the Special Events Center. In the 80s and 90s there was a waiting list for a handful of lower bowl seats that came available each year and league games sold out early in the day. That has completely changed. Only UofA in the Pac has avoided this change.…[Read more]
