Charlie replied to the topic I heard that there is no plans (yet) to play Jackson at the wildcat in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
My interest in the wildcat is not that Rising can’t run, rather I like taking hits and risks off Cam’s game. We increase the likelihood that Rising is still QB1 at the end of the season if we reduce his snap counts a bit. Next, even though Cam is capable of running, it forces opposing defenses to spend time on the change up offense since the…[Read more]

I did hear Cam say his arm is stronger than it was in the Rose Bowl. He also said it was much better in the Rose than it was when he first started playing last year.

I believe you are correct with Cams injury. The coaches did not misjudge anything. Cam has said now that his arm was getting better through out the year, even better now, but was not well at the start of last season. The coaches were waiting for Cam to come along. I think Brewer also knew that as well, he was watching the process from a close…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic From Bleacher Report… in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
Whitt does better with early games that matter. So often he is comfortable in OC games early using them for teaching, rotating thru backups, and letting players understand what he has been talking about. He really only cares to win these games and views them as more of a teaching tool. No style points. Last year was just strange with OC games.

Charlie replied to the topic Utah at ASU tickets in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
ASU is a party school. You will be fine anywhere in the stadium. You are likely to see someone that has had lots to drink and could hear cussing but I have also seen that at home. Most often folks do try to respect kids. If you can laugh at a joke about your own school and be very low on the dick coefficient yourself, all the college stadiums…[Read more]

I will be coming in from the coast for game day. I don’t expect to have much in common with the crowd in Gainesville and there are other parts of Florida that are so much more interesting.

Charlie replied to the topic More off-season banter before game time in a month. in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
I am hoping that we can work Jackson into regular rotations as a change of pace / wildcat QB. That forces defenses to spread their preparations as well as takes pressure and hits off of Rising. Also if Rising gets nicked up you do not need to replace 100% of the QB play.
Injuries come and go. Last year the OL had people coming and going early…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Kyle's press conference at media day in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
The best way to counter the heat and humidity is depth. It is key that we do not fall behind and keep our rotations quite liberal especially in the first half. Only late in the game go just to the ones unless they need a blow. On both lines, the 2s need to play a third of the game, the strategy of here and there constantly is best and is a…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic BigTen commissioner Kevin Warren said they may not be done with expansion… in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
I would prefer taking a few of the best from the Big 12 over going to the Big 12. However, if it is true that Washington and Oregon and/or others have asked for extra shares, I prefer going to the Big 12 as option two over riding out the Pac. Oregon and Washington will be a problem for us unless we go with them to the BIG where there is adult…[Read more]

Charlie started the topic 2022 Media Guide in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
It seems like in past years the media guide has been released in June. Going into the Pac 12 media days it seems odd that I have yet to have seen it. Have I just missed it?

Charlie replied to the topic Can the PAC ruin everything for the Big12? Is it true that the AAC teams have in the forum Pac-12 2 years, 5 months ago
This is not a value index, it is an index from last years records with teams playing very different schedules. Try to imagine how this will shuffle in the next couple of years. The new teams going to the Big 12 will not at all hold onto these spots with schedule change, as an example.

Charlie replied to the topic Even the commissioners don't seem to know what is going on… in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
Most likely he is focused on having teams from both coasts and assumes that covers everything in the middle. Still, the comment speaks to the value of even the late time zone.

Charlie replied to the topic Can the PAC ruin everything for the Big12? Is it true that the AAC teams have in the forum Pac-12 2 years, 5 months ago
I disagree. The Big 12 has a slight edge over the Pac 12 with Texas and Oklahoma. After loosing those two and the Pac 12 loosing USC and UCLA, the Big 12 has lost their edge clearly. Their best program, Baylor, is around 3 or 4 if in the Pac and they have several that are new to this level. There is no reason to expect the next 4 programs to…[Read more]

You must factor in that a school does not necessary own the market they are in. As an example, Houston is a top market clearly, however, this market is owned first by Texas, second TA/M, third LSU. You certainty would not just assume Rice also own the Houston market. Note that LSU is not even in the same state. Others like ND have most their…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Remaining Pac-12 should be looking to expand rather than looking to be picked up in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Likely conference contracts figure in. Does one of the conference contracts make it difficult to leave? Does both conferences each have teams that are not in the top 12 or 14 of the combined group? Is it easier to build a new conference from scratch. This may be the option if you are trying to create the 3rd power conference.

Charlie replied to the topic Governor Newsom pushing back on the UCLA move in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
I agree, there likely will not be a change because UCLA is forced. If UCLA was to change from the direction that benefits them it would be because they don’t want to upset the BOR that they may depend on for other unrelated support. All that is unlikely because I’m not sure that if it is a BOR decision they would not also proceed letting UCLA…[Read more]

I am not sure you have looked at this from the Cal perspective. Realignment is very likely to hurt Cal and could be seen as unnecessary in the big picture. At work most decisions I was free to make but inside the limits of those I could were things I would be able to recognize were best done by providing a ‘heads=up’. In this case, the only…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Utah's 2022 defense in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
I think best players, down and distance, and offense all figure in. I have seen a Utah trend of more sets in addition to the base defense. More depth and different skill sets play into that. I am fine using that depth to do different sets on 3rd and short vs 3rd and long. Was it Oregon State when after Lloyd went out late in the game we were…[Read more]

A division with 2 conferences and 40 teams seems odd. That would be divisions of 10 that would require 9 division games. Not much crossover but could be done. 4 conferences with 8 playoff spots allows for 4 at large playoff teams which provides the BIG and SEC a way to still dominate playoffs. The ACC is set for media contracts and can’t be…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Big 12 vs Pac 10 – do we have preferences? in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
I think this is likely, however, it probably will not be 20 teams. I think the top 14 teams can get pretty much the same money as 20. Those driving this conference will want to have as much money as possible trying to match the ACC. Hopefully, it is attractive to Washington and Oregon. Oregon State, Washington State, Kansas, Kansas State and…[Read more]
