Charlie replied to the topic Transfer Portal Rules – Are there any? in the forum Football 2 years, 11 months ago
Good question. I assume not more than one transfer per year and no mid year transfers. I assume schools can’t contact athletes not in the portal. With NIL can literally anyone contact an athlete about where they should go? Could it be that because there are no legal limits in regular law it becomes difficult for the NCAA to impose their own…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Utah's racial and ethnic diversity compared in the forum Misc 2 years, 11 months ago
All states will have a makeup that is much like the previous generation. Migration will continue to be very minor compared to organic growth. The last thing we need to do is move people in and out to seek balance. The critical thing is that we blend in fair ways as we hire, work, and live together. In my lifetime I have seen incredible change…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Transfer portal needs and potential prospects in the forum Football 2 years, 11 months ago
Safety gets a big help when Herbert returns, Latu will figure in and Vaughn will likely return to safety from helping out the CBs. Stewart from ’21 and Davis in ’22 are in the development stage. Another safety would be good but must be a candidate to start rather then depth.
DE I think is the critical need from the portal. A find that can be a…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Travel thread… Lets hear about places you've been that you would recommend in the forum Misc 2 years, 11 months ago
What for?
For beer, start with Belgium. Bavaria Germany is next. Then UK, Ireland, Scotland. The rest seems common.
For landscapes, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, Austria, Northern Italy, Norway, Switzerland.
History, food, and beaches each have a list.
The Great Barrier Reef and Normandy on the anniversary are awesome without a list.

Does not always work out for him, however, without him we are not there at the end. We need more options for penetration with a threat to finish. Smith did a lot with what he had, did not expect an entertaining and competitive game tonight.

Best comment: ‘reserve judgement until we see results’. Do we realize how many times Kyle has hired position coaches? He and all other coaches have hires that don’t work out but I am very happy with the record Kyle has built up. Some wondered if moving his brother to coaching to coach TEs would work out and how did that turn out? I think he…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic I think USC will be dramatically better this year in the forum Football 2 years, 12 months ago
USC will be better, no doubt, but they will have to earn the south title. I do wish they would have been scheduled to play Utah and ND earlier in the year. They also will not likely play Oregon at all next year. They need to put together a good defense to get to the CCG and that may not gel until after the Utah game. Williams may not be a lock…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Your experience at the U in the forum Misc 2 years, 12 months ago
I have no idea how to spell his name, but Sudar Mimbol, or something close to that was a professor in the U Accounting department. He was extremely knowledgeable and extremely hard to understand. He completely changed the way I attended class. In the 70s the business students took pages of notes every class period. To stay with the professor I…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Got the first answer to my questions about Smith's recruiting prowess in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years ago
I believe it was the Jazz owner that decided where Chandler would go to school. It would have been interesting if Jon Huntsman was here to watch that process. I will give Smith some time since I don’t know who could do better with what he walked into.

If they don’t think about the consequences you need to evaluate the consequences. Simple math, as consequences increase frequency of the negative outcome will decrease. There exist a level of consequence that will deliver an acceptable frequency of that behavior. There are also levels of consequence that will dramatically increase the frequency…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Lander Barton in the forum Football 3 years ago
We should not simply assume Lander plays LB. He could play on offense and could be an awesome TE, he can even play WR. He can play other positions on defense as a thick SS or a hybrid edge rusher. He is good enough to pick his own spot with the future in mind.

Charlie replied to the topic Best way to buy single game tickets? in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years ago
Have not priced tickets this year but in the past, $5 tickets have been a available near the intersection out front. Then games other than the best of the year, move down to great seats after 5 minutes.

Group of 5 at the game, part of a much larger group to go to the parade, Disneyland, and San Diego. Still in Cali with zero issues, knock on wood. We have had to get use to wearing a mask anywhere indoors. Both small kids and 65+. Still need to fly home this weekend. Most vaccinated.

I also would like to depend on subject matter professionals. However, we do not always have a culture that allows science to speak freely. Galileo and Copernicus could have help us understand the solar system better if the culture at the time would allow them to speak up. Currently, many health workers are very reluctant to question the…[Read more]
