Would you have been concerned at the end of September if you knew between Utah and ASU, one QB would be first team all Pac and the other would not even be honorable mention?

I noticed that Barnes, a RB who everyone wants, visited last weekend. I wonder if this is the begining of late in the cycle, high profile guys show more interest in Utah.

Charlie replied to the topic Kalen DeBoer from Fresneck St. will be the UW coach. in the forum Football 3 years, 1 month ago
May be a good hire only time will tell. I would have expected UW to pull in a big name but there are too many big school openings that make that difficult. Did Sitake need the extra staff to help he take phone calls?

We should not go to 8, rather the rest of the P5 should go to 9. My problem is the annual inventory of games is so few I hate to create move low interest games. The argument for 8 is more wins because low risk games are added. I would go for 8 if all P5 teams play 2 non-conference P5 games. The problem currently is the SEC has 4 non-conference…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic ESPN article explains why it's important for USC to be good in the forum Football 3 years, 1 month ago
The Utes always pick after USC. Currently, too many of the top west coast recruits are going back east before USC picks, leaving Utah down the line. Hopefully, USC can keep more of the top recruits giving Utah a chance to move up behind USC. USC’s improvement can pull Utah with them.

I remember Kalani went to OSU before he went to the Y. I thought Scalley brought the defense up a couple of notches when he became DC.

Charlie replied to the topic Not thrilled about Riley to USC in terms of Utah’s prospects in the forum Football 3 years, 1 month ago
Of course I want Utah to do as well as possible in the Pac. To do that I am not hoping that the other schools fall on hard times. Instead, I hope all Pac teams improve. Our last team should always be in the top 50. I want to see multiple matches between top 10 teams in the Pac each year.

USC is currently not well, however, the Y is not UCLA. I think a disinterested USC can win this game. They need to man up and avoid rolling gutter balls the rest of the way.

At the FCS level, I would not expect anything less from a QB that started several games at the U. I was shocked he didn’t do better at USU and I was sure he could have been very productive if he has stayed at the U. He would have beat out Bentley for the 2020 run, even after spending time at safety.

I absolutely agree with doing all we can to fill the HC – with cheep tickets if needs be. However, I would start the program any other time of the year except for just before this game. A lot of Y fans are coming to this game only, might as well have them make a donation to do so. Next week would be a better time.

I agree, we can’t accelerate to poor offense now by not using our QB in anticipation of poor offense that we may have if we become thin at QB. Remember, we still have QB3 so we would have to lose 3 QBs before we upset the recent plan to play QBs. With 3 games to go we need to reasonably expect that we can make it with 2 QBs. What team would not…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Bill Riley thinks WSU would be our most difficult matchup in Vegas in the forum Football 3 years, 1 month ago
When we faced WSU Rising was just getting started and is a lot more comfortable now. The OL has greatly improved since then. Thomas had 1 carry. Believe me, WSU would see a greatly improved Utah team.
In the third quarter vs OSU, Utah had a lead when Lloyd was thrown out of the game. After that Utah went from 3 to 2 LBs and OSU ran all over us…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Bagley in the forum Football 3 years, 1 month ago
Bagley was once quite funny when he was much closer to the center of the political spectrum. Along the way he became interested in an extreme and lost the interest of most in the state due to the spot he settled into. He chose to entertain a small audience. If he would have taken note of the great John Stewart, he would have seen that as John…[Read more]

I do think the December signing day is an issue, I wish it was latter in the month. It was needed to allow recruits to start school in January but I wish it was some time period after the regular season ends. The small advantage for us is if he is going it is useful to know as the recruiting gets very serious. There may be more.
I expect that…[Read more]

We have to trust the coaches. There is so much more that we do not know. We fans are literally like a bunch of aborigines, off the grid and in the desert wilderness, looking up at a jet in the sky and guessing what it is and how it flies. What we can guess is that the recruiting options we had mid October are not the same as the options we have…[Read more]
