I understand he or someone else were in line at RB and the coach dressed the other guy because he was faster. I was thinking Moss was a solid RB2. Let’s hope he is back next week.

Either, on the way in I told my boy, set the edge and keep Hall in the pocket and the Y will not get the extra time they need for their pass game to work. Same for the RB. Outside in and a spy would frustrate them.

Do you think if Lloyd was assigned to only spy Hall on 60% – 70% of the plays, could the rest of the defense stop the rest of the Y?
Can Brewer change the play, does he have a way to do so in a loud environment, does he get the play in time to make a change?
Are we ready to attack a loaded box?

Charlie replied to the topic Lots of over reactions on both sides here in the forum Football 3 years, 4 months ago
When you loose the LOS, offensive or defense, there are things you do to counter that. Offense goes quick to the edge, screen passes, roll out the QB and make the DL run. The defense rolls up LBs, run blitz, come off the edge. That is all considering you are loosing the man to man engagements. The remedies get easier when loosing the LOS is…[Read more]

The other sound we heard last night was a door opening. Stanford beat USC well enough to open things up in the south. UCLA and Colo have had games that make them look like contenders. ASU may or my not be. It looks like the possibility of a scramble. Can Utah take advantage? Can we fix the problems from last night and jump into the mix?…[Read more]

I may be able to break it down. After being slow to react to overloading the box, Utah makes some adjustment, the defense flips to the opposite and again we do not adjust quickly. We were chasing them and not catching up quickly, we were doing little to dictate a change from them. In a game that required adjustments, Utah was having a hard time…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic This is on the players. in the forum Football 3 years, 4 months ago
Some of the problem was a lack of reaction from Utah. As an example, when the other team is giving you a 5 man line and then mixing in involvement of LBs, the New England Patriots would not simply continue on with their scripted plays. They would quickly adjust to some plays that take advantage of that defensive position. Likely, Utah was not…[Read more]

It was a tough game to watch and then the rain as well made for an uncomfortable night. After watching the Y play Az. I thought we had some basic points to plan around. Az. is not a good team but exposed the Y’s secondary and stayed in the game. Utah did little to attack that secondary. Also in the game, Hall breaking the pocket to run around…[Read more]

I am wondering if this practice came from a specific event. I get that we can be struck and it is a possibility. I am simply trying to understand the incremental difference in risk with people headed to cars etc. like at the HS game tonight. No doubt fishermen come in off the lake when they see lightning. So without challenging the practice, I…[Read more]

If you look back to Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado as well, in 10 years they have lost their best 6 programs. Imagine the Pac missing the top 6 and adding UNLV, Boise St, Fresno St, etc.

Living in Provo, I started going to Y games in the late 50s with friends. The Y did not win many and the Utah-USU game was the big instate game. In 72 Edwards came in but was assisted with a athletic budget that jumped up to about as much as the rest of the WAC combined. He won 16 of 18 until Mac came in and it become a 50/50 thing until the…[Read more]

The Midwest is far to go then you add Florida, West Virginia and Ohio. The other schools will hate the road trip for BB with whoever they pair with the Y. UCF is another outlier maybe they can pair the two. Could be rough winter travel to get thru with no more trips to Cali to enjoy. Texas can have plenty of awful winter travel to Dallas.

Without question, the Y needed to join a conference. Without a doubt, the remnants of the Big12 is the best they could have hoped for. Next, they will face the week-in week-out work that Utah had to adjust to when we moved to the Pac. This conference grind is different than playing P5 teams in their non conference while they are cycling thru…[Read more]

When Utah releases the TEs and RB, we need to be better with a hot receiver ready. Weber was sending 1 and 2 LBs when they saw those releases making it a race to see the play develop before pressure got to Brewer. We got several first downs in this race but it cost a couple of free runs at Brewer. Rule #1, you must punish a defense out of…[Read more]

History and last year is worth only a fraction of current year games. One game in UCLA has clearly the biggest win in the conference. Washington’s history is helping them very little right now. I respect UCLA because the conference has so few big wins on the road in week one. As of now, we are all chasing UCLA until they beat them, they loose,…[Read more]

If the Pac champ goes to the playoffs, it is likely the looser of the CCG goes to the Rose. However, the second best team in the south could go to the Rose if they are rated higher.

If Utah sets the edge well keeping the RBs inside and keeping the QB in the pocket, the defense will do fine. Must set the edge.

I agree with seeing more of Marks and the new LBs. The OL had some issues for sure, however a lot of the pressure on Brewer was coming from LBs, often with our RB out of the backfield, especially early in the game. If you assign LB pressure elsewhere (blitz pickup or hot release) the OL was ok with things to clean up. Weber’s scheme bunching…[Read more]

It is difficult to judge. Arizona did not look good, they may win a league game at best. However, I did not watch any other loosing Pac teams except Stanford. UCLA is the only Pac team that came out of the gates looking strong but I also expect Utah, USC, ASU and Oregon to pick up steam in the next weeks. Sadly, the Pac looks to still have G5…[Read more]
