One odd favorite game was when a U cheerleader was running thru the north end zone in Provo after a U touchdown with a big flag. A Y fan came out of the stands to tackle him. When the fan would not let up the cheerleader rolled over on him and started to pound him into the turf. So funny to see the cop in the corner drop a drink to go out and…[Read more]

One interesting part of that is with Kump nicked up I think we see Bam and I think he will do alright. Laumea and Moala I expect will pass the test. If Daniels is solid we could be good. May not know much at all until after the game with the Y.

For background, my family is half Y fans and half U fans. I also grew up in Provo going to Y games with friends since about 7 or 8 years old entering thru the knothole gang for 25 cents without adults. Tickets were easy to come by. Myself I graduated from the U in the 70s and attended every football game. In about ’81 when they built their new…[Read more]

What you saw last year with Rising is not much of a hint because the OL has so little time together. We need everything working to stay with USC. COVID did not let us get ready for the game.
Rising will get time in the first games but I think we start with Brewer. Whitt is focused on the here and now, I think Brewer gives us the best start but…[Read more]

In addition I think Vele, McKinney, Daniels and Bam were missed, not top 10 but in the 60. Redding is close to top 10. Howard, if he stays healthy will end near the top. Jackson will not be QB1 but if he plays something like TE/H back he would be in the 60. Laumea, Bernard and Fillinger/Carlton were missed. Last, everyone usually forgets…[Read more]

I know this is a goofy lilst list on a goofy radio show… But it is interesting to me again, with 10 more spots to go there are more Utah starters not named than spots left with some of the better Y players also to go. I wonder because if I was to guess how many instate players could break into the 2 deep at Utah, I might guess 3 or 4. Into…[Read more]

^^This^^ It is odd because I know Whitt depends on execution much much more than surprise. If they considered the whole of their product, they should consider customer interest in the runup to the season as part of the product.

I think the answer is in math. Are there 2 schools to add to the conference that will cause the split for existing schools to increase? How much of a conference’s TV value is driven from counting noses in markets or is driven from success and great product? Is our current situation due to lack of more schools and lack of population in our…[Read more]

It is possible, even likely. However, it is not a done deal.

Charlie replied to the topic Honest question on a difficult issue in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
When a school wins a conference championship that should not be the end of post season. Unless the G5/6 has their own playoff, they need to be included in the D1 playoff. Next, they need to decide if they want the glory of championship at their own level or to most often be a opening round speed bump for the top level. If BB is any indication,…[Read more]

I think I agree with you. I just don’t think there is any reasonable way to compare one conference to another so the only way is to determine it on the field. The first round of playoff would only include the G5 champs and the at large. The first round winners would likely be the at large and the champions from what is left of the Bit 12 and…[Read more]

After more thought, I would like to see the conference champions of the top 10 conferences get an automatic bid into the playoffs with 12 teams. I am happy to see the PAC, B1G, ACC, and SEC champs get the first round byes. The G5 (or G6 depending on the outcome of the Big 12) champs come next with an at large team (1 or 2). The SEC just needs…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic One old man's grades on our position groups in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
A+ is too much for the LBs. Lloyd is great and there is a lot of new young talent, but there are several other great LBs and good defense groups in the Pac.
The DL will surprise you. Even without more big names, this group is deep and will wear down a lot of OLs with relentless rotation without drop-off. Forth quarters will be interesting for…[Read more]

I agree that there is lots of pressure on Harding. But I don’t think we understand just how hard it is to get every single position group solid and wining the majority of their matchups all while playing 9 games against conference teams that mostly have more resources, much more developed programs, that all want to desperately win games as much…[Read more]

I had the opportunity to listen to him at a coaching clinic years ago. That man had so much knowledge and could provide so much useful info after every single drill. Too bad all that didn’t get put into a book.

Charlie replied to the topic Any insight on these recruits? in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
I think this class will be small. We need to understand, due to the COVID free year how we are going back to the usual scholarship limit. With the portal, we must allocate a number of spots to that source that will be resolved after the year. This numbers game will be a gift to USU and even Weber State as some athletes slide lower than would be…[Read more]

I love the reference, this or the Team Down South. This all came from someone trying to assign this school our rival. It would seem that we are not allowed to pick our own rival.
