Nothing is simple any more. So many trolls pretend to be one thing but are actually the opposite. As for guessing if it is a Ute fan I simply think, is this like anyone I know?
However, I love and support police, military, teachers, coaches, etc. EVEN though I have encountered a complete Jack Ass in each group. Identity is the preponderance of a…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Saw this interesting take on Baylor chat board. in the forum Football 5 months ago
What did the Baylor fan see to think that? Five scoring drives with several long chunk plays and quickly the starters left the game in the first half displayed very little offense from the starters. It would seem the majority of the take comes from watching the 2s, 3s, and 4s. Utah did not even have to introduce a new play to get a second long TD.…[Read more]

I still pull for western teams when playing eastern teams. It remains important that there is good football in the west regardless of conference affiliation. We don’t need great football ending at Texas.

Spy is best. Will it rotate with Johnson, Snowden and Reid or will it be someone’s primary assignment? Will se see some more 3 DE sets? Still, Baylor needs to slow the Utah offense to make it matter.

Maybe this years surprise. Seems like we often have a crazy good surprise player and they tend to return each week.

Charlie replied to the topic My assessment of game 1 in the forum Football 5 months ago
I liked the Utah bunched up offense that resulted in opponent defense of an 8 man bunch with a single deep safety behind the box. We saw Keithe leak out of the bunch for an open post route. We saw Stanley running open wheel routes down the sideline. I will enjoy seeing the wrinkles develop with this over time. As defenses rightly get concerned…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Moving on from last night, what does everyone hope to see next week? in the forum Football 5 months ago
QB: Rising will smooth out and get into better and better rhythm. Wilson is fine, he graduated HS90 days ago and will become awesome.
RB: They will settle in, be a strength and I expect will continue as a committee.
WR: Also will settle in. Opponent defense will get something new and significant to deal with each week.
TE: TE will continue to be a…[Read more] -

Actually, I think these FCS games are good when you view them as preseason games but they can bit you if you lose or play poorly. They are hipped up and trying hard to make an impression. In a strange way it is a taste of someone that just does not want to lose a game. Get ready because USU will bring that odd emotion to try to make some…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic How we feeling about 3* Turnovers in first half? in the forum Football 5 months ago
Each of these plays will help us in the long run. Wilson can get the worry out of the way, learn and improve.
Rising had a couple of passes that can be improved. Part of the process of coming back from so far back.
The RBs will become more focused of how best to avoid putting the ball on the ground.
The team in general can focus better building on…[Read more] -

Good grief, top teams have spots they do not want to see an injury. Most teams with great depth are mostly covered not 100% covered with starter level players. Utah and Big 12 teams are not the kind of teams that do not have thin spots behind some starters.

I am thinking 11-1 is most likely. The OSU game will key. If the Utes win they will get on a roll that will eliminate the WTF games. If the Utes lose I think they don’t lose again in the regular season.

Charlie replied to the topic Redshirt games and postseason in the forum Football 5 months ago
I makes a big difference when filling in for a starter missing a game. Imagine a player that is redshirting and moving quickly in development, we have had several, then at the end of the year they have surpassed the backup but still wants to preserve the redshirt. The end of year actual depth chart often is not the same as the published chart or…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic What are you hoping for on Thursday for Offense, Defense, Special Teams? in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
Showing class is letting the opponent try to stop the second or third units, Second units do not run up a score, they simply play when given a chance and should have every opportunity than starters have.

Charlie replied to the topic Depth Chart 👀: Gilman @ SS, Van & Logan co-starters, Dallen Bentley TE in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
Something interesting to watch. Rayshwan Glover is a new guy I didn’t see come in on the recruiting or transfer lists but is listed as the punt returner. It could be considered a good surprise. Seems to be Covey’s size, awesome he is from Texas. Myself, I like return guys that are not starters on offense or defense. They really focus on giving it…[Read more]

Some time ago it was reported that Damuni was expected back in the second part of the season. I have seen nothing to update that initial prognosis. I am going to guess that due to the experience last year with Rising and Keithe, injury return expectations will not really be communicated much and won’t be on the the hopeful side at all. I think if…[Read more]

Have not looked at this before but I see problems. As an example, Singer has his HS rating of .85 and we know he is not comparable to a freshman rated .85. We have seen players like Ellis last year or Lloyd before, blow up after coming to Utah. Imagine how Lloyd is rated his last year since players not in the portal have their original rating.…[Read more]

I am hopeful. I was on the initial committee to improve fan experience at the stadium 7 or 8 years ago and this was expected long ago. I would think if you could connect a campus full of students on a school day it would only take some simple additions to extend that connectivity over to the stadium for a game day. Maybe Tony understands the…[Read more]

A couple of positions have extra starters. With Richie, Johnson and Gilman hopefully one can play both safety positions so the rotation can approach even. Same with DE with Fano Fillinger and O’Toole. When Damuni comes back, lots of LBers for the base defense. Rotations that benefit the end of the year need to start early. Maybe the defense stays…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Biggest fears going in to the new conference. in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
There are different flavors of 3-3-5 defense. But for the most part the set is lighter and used to cover 4 WRs giving up something to stop the running game. Going the other way, those defenses may not be used to 12 and 13 TE packages that run or pass. Runs can seem like a lot of bigger bodies running at them than they are used to. On passing downs…[Read more]
