Charlie replied to the topic Honest question: Urban Meyer hate? in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
We have sometimes had an assistant coach that is in the sunset phase of career, like Pease, that is less than full time. Dennis Erickson, I think, ended his career at Utah as an assistant coach with the RBs. I would love to see Meyer come to Utah to be a QB coach with whatever limits he would like on off season work. If we could get him to just be…[Read more]

I don’t know Smith’s plans but for the good of the program he should let Manny Hendrix make this decision as the best one in the program to assess options. Not the time to wonder about foot steps. Hard to imagine this would not be a desire from the U’s side.

Thanks, I missed that. At one point I thought it was 85 and 105.

Hard to say. I don’t know Bamisile and Teat status. Johnson, I think is a mission kid. I don’t know about Katoa. I expect Huang and Haddock are WOs. The four that played often and the portal guys are 8 so there may be more on scholarship?

Andre has the fire, he and the U would just need adequate mutual interest.

For walk-ons there is a limit, I believe it is still 20 additional non-scholarship players. At one time the difference was the walk-ons did not get the training table – unlimited food with the team. Conference travel team restrictions also drew a line. There always has been, likely always will be big schools that can carry more numbers but making…[Read more]

Could possibly be an upgrade to the PF spot after all? Do we have as many as 2 open spots following this?

My guess is he made his decision before the point that Worster and Smith made their decisions. Likely he did not see playing time coming his way in 24 and wanted a chance to play more. With the redshirt decision, I expect he had his plan in motion already and chose not to change it as new developments took place. It would appear now that staying…[Read more]

The QBs last year had the issue that they either we not able, talent level or willingness, to learn from Rising the year before. There was so little progress to keep the previous offense running. Possibly, Rose gets a partial pass due to his injury. This year we have two new QBs that I believe have the talent level to mimic Rising and they both…[Read more]

Absolutely right Miami. Merit and test scores will produce not only the greatest diversity, it also eliminates so many nonproductive hires. I have gone variety of universities, gained degrees in three different states and enjoyed advanced military training and would say the UofU is as welcoming as any. As a non-LDS I have had zero issues as well.

It was George Patton who reminded us, the other side will have a plan also. Someone in conference always has a development no one saw coming.

Of course Utah is not a slam dunk for the B12 championship. Not perfect at all but likely is the best chance to win it all. The other contenders have their issues as well so the hype is relative to the other choices.
Texas and Oklahoma are gone.
UofA rebuilds again this year. Some of the players will be playing for their third different staff.…[Read more] -

Could also get minutes from Caleb Lohner, the new FB TE with BB skills.

Could it be possible that the MBB team is looking for better days? I like Keller, Utah wanted him quite a bit out of HS. May give us more minutes than Kata and could approach Braden, maybe. Little, I think, is equal to my expectations for Smith last year before we saw him play. Dawes seems to have potential much like starters we have had in the…[Read more]

I think that may be a guess. For years, Utah benefited from 2 individuals they have no longer. Chris Hill’s first love was MBB and he was good at his job. He was supported by Jon Huntsman, also a MBB fan, in a big way. Together they made Rick work out for as long as he did. Football has enjoyed an unusual long run with an awesome HC to get us…[Read more]

As I recall the eligibility rule when Manny Hendrix finished playing BB… One gets 4 years of playing college sports in a single sport but can get a fifth year if in another sport. Manny played 4 years of BB, one of my favorites. Following the BB season he come out to play spring football, intending to play in the fall. A scout from the Cowboys…[Read more]

Poor is not accurate. Bernard without a pitch count is a very talented RB1, so only health like anyone is the issue. As for the others, we only know JJ was preferred which is an adequately high bar. With a year of development others like Glover could be equal to that level, we just don’t know. Last, I believe the QB issue in ’23 had a negative…[Read more]

What you may not like about Sander’s hype is more than made up for by his discipline off the field. I love how he insist that players take class very serious. He understands not all go to the NFL.

The missionaries coming and going are hard to track. Some play a year then go, some go right away, birthdates may have something to do with it. Some missionaries return as planed, some do not, some come in that were committed to other schools. Higher profile guys or guys from Utah are reported better than others. Sometimes coaches provide insight…[Read more]
