Chilly replied to the topic Utah WBALL projected as a 2-seed in Creme's latest in the forum Basketball (Women) 1 year, 10 months ago
Unfortunately I think this is extremely unlikely to happen, but still fun to dream. We will definitely take some lumps going through a tough Pac-12 schedule. My hope is that we can pull out enough wins to stay a 4-seed and get to host the first two rounds of the tournament.

Probably because whoever wrote the article wasn’t at the game and they didn’t have a photographer to get pics from, most likely just looked at the box score and the play-by-play and wrote it from that. Welcome to WBB.

Following recruiting in Utah is quite a bit different from many schools with a number of recruits planning to go on their missions before enrolling. Similarly, it’s always interesting to see young men returning from their missions who I’d forgotten about.
I’ve seen a few mentions here and there, but does anyone have a list of: (A) which of…[Read more]

And the WBB is at #6. Neither will likely be able to stay that high by season’s end but sure is a fun way to start the season.

Another really solid game against a pretty good opponent. Would love to see the athletic department stop with the 3PM games so that we can get a few more fans in the building.

While I’d love it, I think that a 2-seed is probably overly optimistic. If we could pull off a #4 seed, we’d get to host the first two rounds at the Huntsman, which would be awesome for our program and our fans. Making everyone play at altitude has been a big advantage for our squad, particularly given our depth.

For those who have an interest in WBB, I saw this very detailed article published today that goes in depth into our WBB team, providing a statistical analysis of why they’ve been so good this year:

If I’m understanding CFB eligibility rules correctly, he should have 2 years left if he wants them?

BYU is down a bit this year after losing a few key players to graduation and the portal but obviously in any BYU/Utah matchup you know that both teams are going to compete. Hopefully our squad can keep it rolling….

Not sure how likely this is given what a meat grinder the PAC-12 is this year but it sure would be fun if it did. In the womens tourney, all the #1 through #4 seeds host the first two rounds.

Chilly replied to the topic #17 Utah WBALL 69-67 over Ole Miss in the forum Basketball (Women) 1 year, 12 months ago
Really hard-fought game for the Utes. Ole Miss’s coach is from the Bahamas and loved, so there was quite a crowd cheering for the Rebels. Ole Miss was up for most of the game but the Utes just wouldn’t stop coming back at them. Rebels D were really athletic and out on our guards the whole game so the Utes’s interior players had to do a lot o…[Read more]

Chilly replied to the topic Historic Night in the Huntsman as Utah WBALL Dominate No. 16 Oklahoma in the forum Basketball (Women) 2 years ago
Yes, they are/were #16 and have been a really good team over the past two years. Last year they were a 4 seed in the tournament and I don’t believe they graduated anyone. They start 4 seniors, 3 of whom are red-shirt seniors and are all healthy. They do play with a lot of pace, pushing the ball up the floor and firing shots. Utes matched the…[Read more]

Chilly replied to the topic #25 Utah WBALL Host #16 Oklahoma TODAY 7p MT in the forum Basketball (Women) 2 years ago
Oklahoma is really explosive, we could win or lose this one by 20 depending on whose shots are falling. Need to take care of the ball, rebound and make them execute in the half-court. One small positive is that Oklahoma played BYU last night and were really sluggish to start. They needed to play their key players for most of the game to pull…[Read more]

Really hoping attendance takes a step forward this year after last year’s tremendous success. That is the advantage that the “traditional powers” have in WBB – it’s a lot more fun to play in front of 4K+ fans every home game. Of course that doesn’t matter for every recruit but it certainly does for some.

Chilly replied to the topic Honest question in the forum Basketball (Women) 2 years, 8 months ago
I always thought Ute was gender-neutral, not like Cowboys or Minutemen or whatever, so doesn’t seem like there is anything wrong with just referring to them as Utes like every other sports team at the University (other than the “Red Rocks” I guess)? My guess is that the university won’t change it in any sort of official manner, but I doubt you’re…[Read more]

Stanford’s good. Not having McFarland really hurt given Stanford’s size, they killed us on the boards. However, still an amazing run for the ladies at the tournament.

I generally agree with the statement that we don’t have a duty to support the team. However, supporting the team by attending games makes a very material impact on the success of the program, particularly as it relates to recruiting. Schools that have legions of fans who show up to watch games are going to have a lot easier time rebuilding their…[Read more]

Chilly replied to the topic Utah WBALL Closes Out Non-Conference Slate at Oklahoma Tuesday evening in the forum Basketball (Women) 2 years, 11 months ago
This will be a really tough game. First true “away” game of the season and Oklahoma’s been playing great. Seems like a team playing very similarly to Utah – high scoring, good shooting, lots of threes and lots of assits. Would be a big win if the Utes can pull it off.

So far this season, we have killed teams with our great shooting from three. In this game, we shot awfully from outside (good shots, they just didn’t go in) and still found a way to win – offensive rebounding, defense, pounding them in the paint, etc. Hopefully we won’t see shooting like that again, but nice to see it not result in a loss.

This is a really fun team to watch. Third highest scoring squad in the entire NCAA Division 1 season-to-date.
