Chilly replied to the topic Back to football for a sec…how is Utah doing with 2021 football commitments? in the forum Football 4 years, 5 months ago
We also have a “commit” from Tevita Fotu a DT from Snow College. He originally committed in the 2018 class but ended up at Snow instead, now appears to be coming again. Does anyone happen to know how many years of eligibility he will have left?

I believe Koli Faaiu, an O-lineman from Edmond, WA, is going to announce his commitment this evening. Internet speculators suggest we have a good chance.

Some nice recognition for our incoming recruits (2020 class) – both Kennady McQueen (UT) and Peyton McFarland (ID) were named the Gatorade Player of the Year for their respective states.

They’ve definitely had more turnovers lately than you’d like to see. Part of that is likely their youth, the vast majority of minutes are played by freshmen and sophomores. On a positive note, they have stretches every game where they take care of the ball and hit a few shots and they are really good, just need more of them….

Utes play today in the first round of the Pac-12 tourney, 3PM (MT) vs. Washington. Should be a competitive game, although Washington is down a couple players due to injury so hopefully we can pull it out. Winner gets to play Oregon….

College sports will never be a level playing field for all schools but the Pac-12 really needs to figure out the Pac-12 Network, that is a major part of the revenue disparity.

Two good conference road wins last weekend in Washington to put ourselves all alone in 7th in the Pac-12. This weekend has home games against Stanford and Cal. Stanford is ranked #8 and beat us by 33 at their place although the game was more competitive than the score indicates. A Utes win would be a major upset, let’s hope for continued…[Read more]

Out on social media the last couple days, our Utes got another commit for the 2020 class, Kelsey Rees, a 6’5″ post from Australia. Here’s a highlight video:
Seems like a very solid addition, moves well and I’m thinking that her shooting ability will add a new dynamic to the offense. We are now…[Read more]

As of today, here are the PAC-12 teams in the top 25:
3. Oregon
6. Stanford
9. Oregon State
10. UCLA
12. Arizona
19. Arizona St.The PAC-12 has to be the top conference in WBB this year and I don’t think it’s close. We have played both Oregon schools twice and UCLA and Stanford once each.

After what has to have been the toughest conference schedule in the country so far (tied with Colorado), our Utes are in a 4-way tie for 7th in the conference, with six losses against teams ranked in the top 10 in the country. Of the final 8 games, they “only” have two games remaining against top 10 teams (Stanford and UCLA), so it will be an…[Read more]

Pac-12 is just a buzz-saw this year, tough year to have a roster full of freshmen and sophomores, no matter how talented they are. It definitely seems like we are doing better the second time through the gauntlet, competing for decent stretches of each game. The opposing teams are so explosive though, hard to keep them in check for a full game.

Chilly replied to the topic This is fun: 16 of 23 from deep on the road for Utah Women’s in the forum Basketball (Women) 4 years, 10 months ago
We will win a lot of games shooting 16 of 23 from three. This is a young team with good potential, they’ve just had too many turnovers and defensive lapses in some of their games this season. Those will improve with experience, seems like they’re playing the right way and the team vibe is still good.

The program puts out a lot of game previews and recaps, so I thought it would be good to post a link to this story about Kemery Martin which was very good:
Kemery had her best game of the season against USC, looked more relaxed and confident on the floor.

Chilly replied to the topic WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LANDS TOP 20 RECRUITING CLASS in the forum Basketball (Women) 4 years, 10 months ago
Right now we have 13 on the roster, with Zuzana Puc sitting ineligible to play this year due to transfer rules.
Next year we will lose Kiana Moore and Daneesha Provo to graduation, so with the addition of 3 from the 2020 recruiting class will give us 14 eligible players for the 2020-2021 season.
