Ted Lasso probably has a pretty good understanding of our backup QB situation. I think it’s fair to say Cam at 80% is probably better than the others at 100%.

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Apple TV in the forum Football 2 years ago
If Apple TV allows us to be competitive financially I’m fine with it regardless of how accessible it is to casual viewers. If we win the Pac12 we’ll get a spot in the playoff regardless of whether people watched our conference games or not. If we make the playoff consistently we will stay relevant. Money is the #1 factor in whether or not we stay…[Read more]

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Looking to next year, do we have anyone decent committed? in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 years ago
Even if we don’t find anyone to replace Anthony, we’re still going to be better next year.
With how good Smith and Burgess are with player development, I’m excited to see what they can do with Keita next year. They helped Anthony learn to shoot a little bit. Everyone on this team is much better than they were last year. If Carlson stays, we’ll…[Read more]

I’m not sure about the future of the Pac12. I think Utah will be fine either way. I lurk on CB, and I’ve noticed that they seem to think Utah wouldn’t/shouldn’t get an invite to the Big12 because BYU already brings the Utah market, and that’s all that matters (more eyeballs = more money). The thing is, better football teams create a more…[Read more]

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic IF Ludwig leaves in the forum Football 2 years ago
No worries. The more I think about it, the more I think that if Ludwig is GOING to leave, now is probably the best time to do it (well, not NOW NOW… the best time was right after signing day, but whatever).
Honestly, I think losing Harding would maybe be harder on the team than losing Ludwig, as strange as that sounds. I’m not convinced, but it…[Read more]

Our O-line was mediocre for the first several years, and many including myself, blamed him for this. However, it has become clear that he was likely not the problem. We simply did not have the horses to put together an offensive line that was good in both phases every year. Over the last several years our offensive line has proven to be a strength…[Read more]

I hope it would be seamless, but I’m not as confident as you seem to be. Harding is certainly the one that is the most likely to provide a seamless transition.
Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.

Unless we can’t replace him with an absolute home-run hire like Brian Johnson (not going to happen) or David Shaw (also not likely) I think we have to give the job to Harding.
I’m not convinced that Harding is ready for it, but I gotta think he gives us the best chance of retaining our offensive recruits (like Fano), and keeping system continuity…[Read more]

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Impact freshmen 2023? in the forum Football 2 years ago
If I were to pick freshmen that might have a big impact, I would have picked those guys as well. Fano is our highest rated recruit in this class, and Matthews/blocker/Snowden all play at positions where there is some level of uncertainty about the talent level of the returning players.

This last season we had Vaki and Barton. We have more talent coming in than ever before, but I just don’t see how any of them get a starting spot simply because of how deep our team is. We have potential spots up for grabs at WR and CB, but those will almost certainly be filled be last years back ups or incoming transfers.
Anyone disagree? I just…[Read more]

If we ever have to change it (we won’t anytime soon, the Ute tribe members love the U), I hope we just drop the nickname and go by the name of the university and that’s it. The University of Utah. That’s it.

IKR? I mean, pretty much all of the best college football coaches were hired as first time HCs by their programs (with the exception being Saban). Smart, Day, Riley, Swinney, Whitt…

Scalley isn’t going to be the next HC because he’s a former Ute player. He’s going to be the next HC because he is just that good.
Also, your assertion that top 15 programs don’t hire first time HCs is completely false. Ryan Day at Ohio State is one example. Dabo Swinney at Clemson is another example (I suppose you might say they weren’t a top 15…[Read more]

I would prefer to have someone like Shah be the DC, someone who has had years of experience coaching a position group at least. Weddle obviously has zero experience coaching college football, so that wouldn’t be a great idea. Shah hasn’t done the best job with the ST, but they are improving each year under him. So that is at least trending in a…[Read more]

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Covey and BJ to Super Bowl in the forum NFL 2 years ago
Covey is a winner. He makes every team he joins better. Johnson is also a winner, but Covey’s leadership ability is absolutely off the charts. I knew a couple kids on Timpview High Schools team with Covey and they said the feeling in the locker room was completely different when he was there. That ability to affect locker rooms has stayed with…[Read more]

If we didn’t win another game all season, this year would still be a success in my book. We’ve already doubled our Pac12 win total from last year. That is impressive growth, and you can SEE it on the court. The players look physically different.

The top 1000? Somehow that doesn’t sound all that impressive. When you consider that most schools are bringing in around 20 guys a class, I would be more surprised if one of our scholarship recruits ISN’T a top 1000 player.
