I thought Oklahoma had the inside track to Arbuckle? Also, Mateer won’t be a passing improvement over current. Great runner though

didn’t matter either way. it was seen on tape after they ran it last week and it wasn’t going anywhere

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Bryson Barnes in the forum Football 3 weeks, 2 days ago
yeah, I’m pretty much the kiss of death lately. Of course his one mistake would be the only thing people look at instead of the defense or the running back who fumbled in the red zone

He would certainly have been the answer for Utah not having a 15 carry a game back.

Now he’s tearing up Colorado State: 11-16-136 with two TD’s passing, 16-116 rushing with another TD in the 3rd quarter.

A lot of us were wrong on this season. I’d say everyone but I’m sure somewhere there was a monkey with a keyboard who was able to predict this

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Whittingham meeting with Cam in the forum Football 3 weeks, 3 days ago
NIL is 100% outside money and the schools are not supposed to have anything to do with it.
Each school has a “collective” of boosters who pool their outside money and contract with specific players.
Conversations between the school and the collective’s are apparently allowed since I’ve not heard of anyone being accused of violating the NIL rules…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Starting QB for the UCF game? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 3 days ago
both Skattebo (RB) and Conyers (TE) played QB against Utah last year which is part of the reason they were so upset by the late Vincent TD

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Question for our Cougar Ute hub posters. in the forum Football 3 weeks, 3 days ago
I fully expect that dead horse to befoul my Friday evening so it’s not like the issue is so far in the past as to no longer be relevant

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Whittingham meeting with Cam in the forum Football 3 weeks, 4 days ago
or more likely, after sustaining multiple season ending injuries to his legs he is a shell of his former self and the Cam/Whitt combination goes 5-7 because there is no playable depth at the position once the inevitable injury occurs

I’d ask if his father was OnlyU but don’t think his dad would have gotten his 2023 recovery status so wrong. 🙂

Rich Rod’s offenses only work with a dynamic running QB

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Is this how it went down in the preseason with Isaac Wilson in the forum Football 3 weeks, 5 days ago
so the answer is to ask nicely if the other team will pretty please promise not to pressure him?
There was no pressure on the first pick against Oklahoma State. Instead he chose to throw in to double coverage on the wheel route without ever looking to the other side where Money had broken ankles and was running free for an easy…[Read more]

1st P4 job now available. Will that start the coaching carousel? So far, only mid-level G5’s have opened up.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Hypothetical: Who's your pick for Utah HC (assuming KW leaves)? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 5 days ago
Scalley could go anywhere from 0-12 to 12-0 and it wouldn’t surprise me. Lake is just one possible outcome. I’m sure if I, or someone else, wanted to research it we’d find more success stories than failures but it would be close to fitty-fitty.
There’s no guarantees in life and Scalley’s HC performance is yet to be written. I do think though…[Read more]

google Jimmy Lake and tell me the comparison isn’t apt other than Scalley hasn’t gotten the HC slot yet.
career spent on one side of the ball? check
moved from DB coach to DC to HC? almost there
considered a great recruiter and motivator? check
spent the bulk, if not all of his career under one of the top coaches? check

2008 National Champ replied to the topic What do we know about UCF? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 5 days ago
UCF is going to run all day and if they can get Scalley to abandon the middle like he’s been doing lately, they’ll break a couple of big runs. It could get 2021 Utah v Stanford bad where the Utes piled up 400 yards on the ground.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Whitt’s Decision in the forum Football 3 weeks, 5 days ago
Sal: to me the calculus is different. The Tennessee job, or the SC job he was offered after 2008, would have required moving his family and going to a place where the expectations are always going to be oversized. Not many coaches get the choice of staying home which was always Utah’s best selling point for Whitt.
Retiring early, on the other…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Wilson debacle is on Whit in the forum Football 3 weeks, 5 days ago
We know his true potential, but only because he got high leverage game reps which was my point. Holding a clipboard all year wasn’t going to slow down the game for him because you can’t simulate those stressors in practice, or even scrimmages. Without a remake of his throwing motion, and apparently a maturity upgrade when dealing with his peers,…[Read more]
