I’m not sure why it’s all of a sudden a bad thing to predict Utah will lose. People were being celebrated on here for betting on the parochial school against Utah 2 weeks ago. But now it’s sacrilege to predict that a team on a 6 game losing streak will lose to 8-2 Iowa State?
What’s the reason for unbridled optimism? Do we think the offense…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic NIL in the forum Football 1 month ago
I don’t think there are any regulations that will work. My only hope is that after a few years of diminishing returns, the NIL market will stabilize. Maybe I’m naive on how much money alumni or local businessmen truly have that they are willing to burn on college kids but there’s a big difference between players getting 20k under the table in…[Read more]

given everything that’s gone on this season and Iowa State being motivated to keep in the conference race, an 11 point spread doesn’t sound unreasonable.

I think he’s trying to say that if the people who agree to follow the honor code are allowed to find loopholes, it’s not much of an honor code.

There’s a game tomorrow? Am I the only one who thought the season ended weeks ago and we’re just totaling up the damage now?

abysmal is probably the nicest way to describe any defense that allowed 37 points to an Isaac Wilson led offense this season

I agree with your premise. I want to boo Rising breaking Britain Covey’s record of longest tenured Utah player. Not sure how to vote

Just sayin’. Taggart and Christobal stopped recruiting for Oregon when they knew they had other jobs lined up. Nothing is guaranteed but getting a big time flip right before signing day doesn’t scream “I’m going to be somewhere else in a couple of weeks”

2009: Schramm promoted to OC, Alford moved from Corners to RB’s, Blake Miller hired for O Line
2011: Chow hired as OC, brought Tim Davis to coach O line after Miller left. Schramm/Arod reassigned
2012: Johnson promoted to OC. Dan Finn O Line. Hill moved to RB’s. Tuiaki hired for FB’s/TE’s
2013: Erickson brought in as co-OC. Tuiaki to D Line,…[Read more] -

It’s always up for negotiation but usually a new OC will bring at least one assistant with them. Utah OC’s under Whitt being the exception because other than Taylor, and I suppose the original Ludwig, he’s just brought in caretakers.
Put another way, would you want to take a 3 year position (standard coordinator contract length) knowing that all…[Read more]

his preachy style worked just fine when he was a player. Deion seems pretty good at communicating with people and getting them on his side.
Also, he’s sure recruiting like he plans on staying at Colorado. Just picked up a 4 star QB over SC and Georgia. And we know he can get talent out of the portal

There are a few traditional football powers who spent most of their history matching this description: just one or two rungs removed from a community college

To be fair, the conversation of BCS busters didn’t start with Utah in 2004. In 2001, the parochial school was having an undefeated season and that’s when I first remember the talking heads discussing whether a non-BCS school should be considered for a NY6 game. Luke Staley got hurt, the parochial school lost to Hawaii in their last game of the…[Read more]

I saw that he threw two passes for 4 yards and both went for TD’s. Were they running him in for RPO at the goal line?

Are we sure it was Harlan who wrecked the conference stuff? By all accounts, it was Randall as part of the Pac-12 Presidents that was clueless when it came to valuation when it came to negotiating the new TV deal. I can’t find the quote but most of the other schools blame Randall for coming up with the 50 MM or bust stance Kliavkoff took with…[Read more]

Boise and Utah were trying to occupy the same space in the mid 2000’s so it was natural for some animosity to build. Petersen owning Whitt didn’t help matters.
Until this year, Boise had owned Oregon also so I’ve always seen Boise as someone that could be a good rival based on games instead of the fake ones like Colorado.

Having all conference champions get an autobid would quickly reverse this trend of 18-20 team conferences and P2. Utah could go back to a regional conference with historical references as joining with schools in West Virginia and Florida would no longer be viewed as necessary to be included.
Go to 24 teams immediately and stop with all the…[Read more]
