2008 National Champ replied to the topic I believe Isaac Wilson is our QB of the future in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
The biggest problem with any breakdown is that none of us know the play call. All we can do is try to interpret based on what happened, what should have happened. i.e., in the reporting for the spring game it was mentioned that the D was only playing cover 2 and not blitzing. So I had to assume the most vanilla of responsibility assignments and…[Read more]

Tony, what did I do wrong. I thought if all the tags said twitter instead of X, that it would just show the clip?

This is the clip I described from. I find it interesting to do “stop-action” so that you can see how each player reacts to what it happening. On the clip, if you can time your pause for the 4 second mark, you see Blocker in full sprint at the 25, Allen in full sprint at the 20, and Calderella turned like he is fielding a punt at the 13. 42 is…[Read more]

Cover 2 means corners start at 5 yards off the LOS and are responsible for the flat and shallow (up to 10 yard) patterns while passing off the deeper routes to the safeties who have deep half coverage. In a game, the DB’s will try to disguise it better but I believe the D was only running cover-2 so it’s not like anyone should have gotten…[Read more]

nice offensive PI to stop the pick 6. I don’t think it was Snowden on the coverage. Looked like maybe the # was in the 20’s.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Mikey Matthews transfer reason in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
Spavital was the OC for Cal during the Goff/Webb years and last year. What they ran in 2023 is more similar to that era than the Wilcox offenses with his other OC’s.

tunnel vision cam is back with a turnover worthy ball that a competent defender at minimum knocks down if not taking the other way for a house call. instead, the highly touted transfer stopped his feet, turned the wrong way and failed to at least put a hand up when he read Kuithe’s eyes that the ball was coming to the exact spot that Rising…[Read more]

wasn’t he wearing a brace in the picture? I guess it could have been just one legging but I assumed brace.

most of us were chanting “we want Eddie” so that he could set the single game rush TD record that he had tied earlier.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic I guess this answers my question from early last week… in the forum Football 6 months, 1 week ago
It’s why our current standard of justice doesn’t act as a deterrence. The conversation somehow has shifted over the years to “we don’t want to ruin two lives” as reasoning for giving the lightest sentence possible because apparently it’s more important to show greater compassion to the perpetrator than the victim was ever afforded.
For some…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Spring ball starts tomorrow – What do want to see? in the forum Football 6 months, 1 week ago
I could have phrased it differently. The are many injuries that athletes play through or return before they are “100%”. Usually it comes down to a nebulous calculation which attempts to take into account the chances that the athlete can either reinjure or lengthen the recovery time. Rising playing last September would have been an example.…[Read more]

Lisfranc injuries have the potential to be career ending. That’s one that I wouldn’t want him to come back before necessary and there really isn’t anything to learn about Barton by having him participate in spring. Use the reps elsewhere and make sure he is able to heal completely.

The school that gets consistently left out of the conversation is Vegas. Yes, they don’t have historical success to fall back on. But it’s in one of the fastest growing markets in the country, has a shiny new NFL quality stadium and is probably the easiest and most popular travel destination in the country. They would be able to operate as a de…[Read more]

Sure things could have been better for Utah if they had a healthy secondary. But don’t forget that Olave and Wilson sat out that game. How much worse could it have been?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Stewart Mandel's CFB Premier League in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
The groupings are definitely weird. Miami and Carolina with 5 Northern schools. Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin with the West Coast. Division C schools are all within a couple of hours from Atlanta so travel is the easiest.
Michigan State, Auburn and Oklahoma State feel superfluous for a National conference. But it doesn’t matter what the list is,…[Read more]
