2008 National Champ replied to the topic All-Decade Utes (2014-2023): UPDATED in the forum Football 7 months, 1 week ago
it’s all opinion so I’m disagreeing without really disagreeing.
If the criteria was that being good for only one season gets you downgraded, Ellis shouldn’t be on the list over Dimick.
Lander is a head scratcher on 1st team over both Norris and Gionni who each played roughly the same number of games. That feels more like anticipating his…[Read more]

A lot of recency bias in a last decade team?
Norris, Dimick, Mokofisi, Gionni, Lowell.
Jackson Barton excelled at both tackle spots. BAM was a turnstile at RT and had half of a good season at LT.
Vaki over Blechen?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Ranking total NIL spend in the forum Football 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Yep, back to the good old days of the 50’s – 70’s where the big schools routinely had close to 150 “scholarship” athletes.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Ranking total NIL spend in the forum Football 7 months, 2 weeks ago
It shouldn’t be overlooked that there is a majority on the academic side at most universities who believe that athletics waters down the mission. The prospect of turning athletes into employees may just be the cudgel they need to shut down athletic departments.
The entry requirements for athletes is universally lower than it is for the greater…[Read more]

when it goes to P2, why would those schools limit themselves to only 100? Their concern at that point will not be propping up the schools that were left behind

Yeah, SC’s problem is not getting enough national attention.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic New Offensive Analyst: Urban Meyer's son-in-law. in the forum Football 7 months, 2 weeks ago
As an analyst, he can’t coach or recruit. However, he would be in perfect position to take over as an offensive coach should a spot become available. Could the hire be a signal that Whitt is bringing in people that Scalley wants after the transition?

Plenty of wins against Rice, UTEP & SMU. I even remember watching Utah rough up aTm on a Thursday night.

even for hyperbole, that went a bit far. The conference you are disparaging just threw you a lifeline while your previous conference was imploding around you and gave you a better deal than the previous 4 teams it admitted.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Locked on Big 12 Utah Season Predictions in the forum Football 7 months, 3 weeks ago
9-3 seems like a reasonable over/under considering all of the new opponents and assuming return to health. In the PAC maybe you had two new HC’s/programs a year to face, otherwise you were pretty much dealing with the same schemes from year to year which has been a luxury. 6 opponents on the 2024 schedule that Utah has either never faced or…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic 2024 schedule – Hot off the press in the forum Football 7 months, 3 weeks ago
Narf is correct. There were a number of PAC/Big 12 games on the schedule for 2024 and not all of them could be eliminated or incorporated into the conference schedule. The Utah / Houston game became a conference game as did Utah / parochial school. Utah / Baylor stayed as a non-con so that Utah would not have to find two new opponents.
K State…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic I don't much like out 2024 football schedule in the forum Football 7 months, 3 weeks ago
The extra bye week is a function of the Labor Day / Thanksgiving timing where there are 14 weeks this year as opposed to the usual 13. All teams will go back to one bye week in 2025.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Harbaugh to the NFL – Chargers in the forum Football 7 months, 4 weeks ago
I don’t think he’d be interested but Michigan seems like the type of school that Whitt might listen to if they were willing to back up the Brinks truck. His style would fit perfectly with their upper Midwest, last man standing mentality.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Useless reminiscing: in the forum Football 8 months ago
Tabarracci had a good spring by all accounts but according to the rumors out of camp was behind Barton and Medlock. Knowing what he knows now, maybe he doesn’t transfer and is already a starter at either LB or TE. I can’t speak to whether he moved due to chasing immediate playing time or if there was another issue but at the time, both rooms…[Read more]

My example would be 2007. The week after Utah crushed UCLA, I went to the UW/UCLA game in Pasadena. I wore my Utah Football greys and I absolutely wanted to see what reactions I would get.
My point is that I was responsible for the reactions. I knew my audience and deliberately wore something that I knew some, not all but some, would react…[Read more]
