Yeah, I just don’t know what the reviewers are seeing that I’m not. O Line ability and/or effectiveness is a hill that I won’t die on. The obvious stuff I’ve got no problem identifying: i.e. guard pulls and runs past a defender who then tackles the RB for a 2 yard loss? I’m pretty confident who made the mistake.
Guard/Center combo block DT but…[Read more]

Still in the MW at this point. So far, all schools have State in their name.

I saw that article and almost added it to the Bingo card thread. Who had Bronco getting New Mexico bowl eligible before Whitt got Utah in 2024?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic After 20 years of success, this is Whit's first failure of a season in the forum Football 1 day, 17 hours ago
Don’t make a change because it might not get better? That’s the rallying cry heard right before every failure in history. Well, I suppose “watch this” and “hold my beer” count for some failures but they are just as ridiculous. No one ever succeeded by saying right now is as good as it can ever be.

I can’t evaluate O Linemen, especially the interior. I just don’t have that skillset. When I was scouting opponents while coaching in high school, I could see the end result of O Line mistakes but could not pick up in real time who was responsible.
So with that background, I never understood the slobbering over Keaton Bills. And I thought…[Read more]

It’s not coach Whitt’s fault? Nothing? The guy who was put in charge of managing those same things that you are blaming for Utah’s current circumstances bears no responsibility?
I’ve said ad nauseum that Whitt has earned the right to finish out his time at Utah under his own terms. But I fail to see how not being prepared for, or adapting to,…[Read more]

So you’re a director at your company. You’ve turned an entire department over to one person allowing him to make all hiring decisions, staff and run his department based on his vision, and he’s turned a steady profit over the life of his career. But now you’ve lost money the last two years and are faced with replacing half of the employees.
Do…[Read more]

Fassel had to go and it wasn’t all about wins & losses. His defensive coordinator was featured in a Sports Illustrated article with the players calling him “Little Hitler” and was charged with supplying steroids to athletes at South Carolina – he was acquitted. He claimed another time that there weren’t any issues with drugs on his team and then…[Read more]

I wish someone would tell the sports urinalists that truth. Nothing ruined fan discourse more than the obligatory “let’s see what people on twitter are saying” articles that come out after every game. Just what we needed, lazier reporters.,,

I want to work for you some day. Apparently my performance level could never get so low that I would be replaced.

Kump’s been delivering good snaps. That alone is a step up over the last few years.

Even trolls can be right every once in a while. Sometimes even more than a broken clock.,,
I’ve got to admit, everything the OP said went through my mind when I read the recap of the presser. And it wasn’t much different than most of us have been saying at one point or another over the last 2 seasons.

I’ve never seen the playbook so I’m probably over my skis on this one but: the complication comes from the multiple ways to run a specific play. And that’s especially true for the blocking schemes. Do your guards have different reads when the play is calling for man blocking, than they would in zone or power? Toss in RPO and now you could have…[Read more]

with his shoulder, I think you’re correct. They played Mitchell a lot more in the 4th quarter, even when there was only an outside chance of a comeback.

Bernard is so low because he’s pretty much hit/miss on his carries. That ypc got inflated early in the season when he was breaking off a 50 plus every game. Now that he’s not breaking those, and not getting a ton of carries.,, he’s just not going to grade well when he doesn’t pile up a lot of “winning” runs.

OC under Meyer at Ohio State. Was reported to be a good recruiter. Would probably like a chance to rebuild his reputation for two years before getting his next HC gig

College style offense is easier to learn or just simplified?
I’d say both. Pro passing games are built around having 4 seconds for the QB to read the field. College you get 2. So the decisions have to be built into the play call and be simple enough that if a QB can deliver on time, he will be successful.
There’s a 2nd aspect that I don’t…[Read more]
