One of the thing no one mentions is that the rules have changed over the last year. Utah is no longer beholden to the Pac-12 rule that guarantees scholarships. The NCAA also changed the rule on maximum recruits per year.
I wonder if the staff is using this opportunity to clear out some of the “dead weight”?

A salary cap could only be applied to employment compensation and since college athletes are not university employees, there isn’t a current mechanism which would allow the NCAA to limit NIL.
The O’Bannon case made it clear that college athletes controlled their NIL and subsequent legislation has been passed in multiple states allowing college…[Read more]

Yep. While I’m a big fan of never seeing any Caleb Williams commercials ever again, you can’t have a cap on NIL. The only cap possible would be if the athletes were made employees of the school(s). NIL has already been decided by the courts and the NCAA can’t put any limits on it

Perhaps Johnson isn’t the only QB who was unhappy with the way the room was run in 2023.

I want Jackson in a walking boot until the damn thing disintegrates. No bowl practices, no bowl reps. Just get the kid healthy and ready for 2024.

I haven’t watched a single CFP game and it hasn’t made a difference. If it keeps up I might need to start reevaluating my place at the center of the known universe.,,

Might as well take the leap and hope he can stick as an UDFA. Can’t see him getting a combine invite

UW/Texas played in a bowl game last year so there should be some familiarity

I have Tennessee 33. Arizona 28, Utah 29, Oregon State 30.

not true sir, not true 🙂
Utah would have finished 2nd in the Pac-12 South if there were still divisions. Crazy how much the North has dominated in the history of the Pac-12 but it is what it is.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Harlan in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
pending judicial decisions, voting for Texas hurts Utah. If anything, Harlan should have been arguing for Oregon’s inclusion since that puts money in Utah’s pocket. Unless Texas getting in to the CFP builds up the Big-12 coffers which Utah will eventually get a split of, in which case I retract my point.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic CFP Rankings in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
style would be bias since it is up to the beholder. I rank based on the categories that I think are the most relevant to the best team.
I’ve gone all the way back to 1978 using my system and I’ll put it up against anyone’s. Once people get into the transitory property or other arguments that are only applied to some schools instead of all.,,…[Read more]

My ranking sheet has the top 10 as:
1. UW
2. Michigan
3. Texas
4. Alabama
5. FSU
6. Georgia
7. Ohio State
8. Oklahoma
9. Oregon
10. MissouriLiberty would get the G5 auto-bid and Mississippi would beat out Penn State for the last at large. FSU would be tied with Iowa for the lowest P5 SOS in my top 25 which is why they get passed by Texas and…[Read more]

They had any after 2014?
Certainly not after 2016 when they ignored the conference champ rule they may up in 2014?
You had to realize their credibility was gone after 2017?
The only credibility the committee has ever had is that they will do whatever is necessary to fill the ESPN Invitational with whichever teams ESPN thinks will bring the…[Read more]

0-4 against ranked teams is always going to be the biggest issue. People will forgive bad losses, but you have to have good wins. 7-5 USC & UCLA wins are good for rounding out your resume but that can’t be the headliners.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Glad Washington Won, BIG DRAMA about to happen for CFP in the forum Football 9 months, 3 weeks ago
It’s such an easy solve. I’m pretty sure they can find 4 stadiums available on 12-16. Put the 3 undefeateds, 4 one losses and Liberty in and run it. Winners meet on 12-30. Championship on Jan 8 since they like to do it on a Monday.
If ESPN bitches about making extra money, sell the games to Fox for the first round. The idiocy of selling the…[Read more]

You’re absolutely right on the rankings. Not sure how I mixed Alabama and Texas up.

I don’t disagree with your 4. The problem is that it makes too much sense.
A committee of people who have proven over the last decade that stated criteria are only important when they want it to be is probably not going to move Texas up 5 spots while leaving out a formerly higher ranked team which beat their previous #1.
