I am curious about how many football championships are won by coaches that have been in place several years vs coaches that are new replacements.
Saban won so many that you have to go back a long ways. Off the top of my head though, the Miami coaches all seemed to do it in their 2nd or 3rd year. Meyer won his at Florida in his 2nd and 4th year.…[Read more]

On 9-15-24, #12 Utah travelled to play #14 Oklahoma State. Since the start of that game, both teams have combined to go 1 and 9 with tonight’s game still to play. I’ve never seen anything like it in my 45+ years of following college football

Why can’t there be an Urban Meyer waiting to come to Utah?

I cited Prince based on what I thought your previous post was referring to: what happened with the coach who took over the first time Snyder stepped down?
Yes, anything other than what happens is speculation. And anything that might happen in the future is based on subjective probability and nothing more.
I feel like I keep having to repeat…[Read more]

I thin you mean the Ron Prince years of 2006 – 2008. For context, Snyder went 4-7, 5-6 in ’04/’05. Which was well down from exactly 11 wins in 6 of the 7 years from 1997-2003. I was living in Kansas at the time and can personally attest that local sports radio was calling for Snyder’s head. Prince then went 7-6, 5-7, 5-7 which got him fired.…[Read more]

I’m missing something. Didn’t you just use those terms? Surely you aren’t suggesting that you are the only one allowed to use hyperbole to make a point.,, Are you?

A recent parallel to the current Whitt situation would be Bill Snyder at Kansas State. He’d taken one of the worst programs in CFB and turned it into a consistent, well-regarded program. Occasionally made runs at being great but always better than most. The stadium was named after him, his contract made him coach for life (or as close to life…[Read more]

The problem is those two Rose Bowl teams were both 9-3 and in no danger of sniffing the playoffs under the system in place at the time. The last time Whitt had a truly playoff caliber team was 2019 and they crapped the bed in the CCG.
So we’re now on the 6th season past his best chance, the playoffs have been expanded so that 9-3 could possibly…[Read more]

now you’re just asking for way too much. You want an OC that can OC and you want healthy players? what are you going to ask for next, special teams worthy of the name?

To you Marion question, I’d want to know if it is his offense or what Odom was running at Missouri? They were averaging mid-30’s and around 500 ypg against SEC defenses when he had Drew Lock.

why wait? fire up the band and run like hell now!
when you’re in a bad streak you need to change things up, find yourself a slumpbuster, do anything and everything necessary to get it turned around.

down 20-0 comes back to win 31-27. Just another example of how you need a functioning offense capable of scoring points at any time.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic BYU & Utah stats through 7 games in the forum Football 2 months, 3 weeks ago
I’m as hard on the coaches as anyone on here but the players still have to make the plays. As good as the defense has been, the numbers of interceptions that have ended up on the ground is astounding. A PBU can force a punt but with the lack of a return game, you’re giving up 40+ yards of field position.
That’s where the parochial school has…[Read more]

One team executed when they needed to and one team didn’t? Seems more important than any of the stats you listed.

False start is a dead ball foul. The play shouldn’t have started but sometimes does before anyone hears the whistle.
Illegal motion is the same as offsides where you can choose the result of the play or the penalty.
