2008 National Champ replied to the topic Why would an OC who has designed a fast-paced offense want to coach under Whitt? in the forum Football 2 weeks, 5 days ago
realistically though, if you were Whitt would you change the way you do business? National Coach of the year, 4 straight CCG’s.,, all the reasons the keep Whitt crowd trumpets are the same reasons Whitt follows his formula.
Saban realizing that if he wanted to have a chance at the NC every year meant that he needed to embrace offense is an…[Read more]

The timing on the OC announcement is usually an indicator. Arbuckle’s team didn’t have anything to play for this week and he wasn’t go to stay for a bowl. Same with Kittley (Texas Tech) going to FAU or Malzahn to FSU.
That would indicate one of two things: 1) Utah’s OC hire is at a G5 playing a CCG this weekend (Vegas, Boise, Tulane, Army,…[Read more]

If only Utah had an advantage of thinner air for half their games to make it easier to get touchbacks.,,

Urban coached special teams wherever he was at and all starters were available for him to use. That’s one advantage of having the head coach doing it, they don’t want their 1/3 to be the let down.
I looked up the 2004 stats. David Carroll / Bryan Borreson combined to make 100% of their field goals. All 7 of them. Can’t stop laughing since it…[Read more]

Part of the kickoff problem is that Utah rarely uses their FG kicker to do kickoffs, even going back to Matt Gay. Wishnowsky would kickoff instead of Gay. Coleman has been doing the kickoffs most of the year, not Becker.

I hate to be that guy but I will admit that whenever I hear of Utah recruiting a QB my first thought is “what’s wrong with them?” I look forward to the day when I get excited about that position again.

I’m all for recruiting talent. I’m an even bigger fan of utilizing that talent. Utah has done a good job of upgrading offensive speed over the last few classes. But most of that speed has been sitting on the bench, transferred out, or moved to defense.
2 years ago I went through the recruiting stats and listed all of the 100 times I could…[Read more]

OC for Urban’s first 3 teams at Ohio State that went 12-0 while on probation, 12-2 and 14-1 with a National Championship. 37.2, 45.5 (3rd) and 44.8 (5th) points per those 3 years.

Or he was told who the new OC is going to be but asked to keep it quiet
Lots of reason for late flips and it seems like SC is getting/losing commits every day

Ashton Jeanty v the best team Phil Knight can buy? I don’t even have to think twice but I’ll admit that if it’s not Utah I want whatever is worst for the power brokers. I understand if others don’t feel the same way

Scalley made a little less than Ludwig this year at 1.5 MM. Better money than he could make as a G5 head coach.

gimme the smurf turf all the way. 1st round bye, beat #5, beat #1 Oregon in a rematch, beat whoever in the final.
Show the P2 that their TV dollars don’t mean a thing and that they shouldn’t have been forcing out the little guy for the past 100+ years

follow up: The concept of the more points you score, the better your chances of winning feels so intuitive that I can’t believe it’s not on Whitt’s analytics sheet.
Whitt has coached 252 games (not counting 2005 Fiesta Bowl) and won 166 of them (.659). His win % by points scored in his career:
0-10: 0-23 (.000)
11-20: 14-26 (.350)
21-30: 49-29…[Read more] -

a 42-21 win counts the same as 24-3. Lots of coaches have figured that out. Not all, but lots.

for the parochial school to lose tonight? That would mean that they lost every game since the “hold heard ’round the world”.

I did not know that. I do know that both Oregon State and Washington State have won conference championships since then. You know, those schools the Big 12 fans tell us we’d be stupid to want to be in a conference with again

Chip Kelly always hated recruiting. That’s why he had to leave Oregon before the show cause penalty for hiring a 3rd party to recruit for him. Add NIL to the mix, along with having made a lot of money in his career, and I can see wanting to do the only part of football he liked again.
