2008 National Champ replied to the topic Whittingham likely not retiring in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
typically, schools will fire the AD before a major coaching change since you don’t want to tie a new AD to someone they didn’t hire. And since Harlan has already handpicked Whitt’s successor, Utah’s hands are effectively tied through the end of Whitt’s and Scalley’s contracts. Any change at this point would cost 10’s of millions in buyouts and 3 firings.

Fired both coordinators and the Oklahoma Board of Regents is holding an emergency session tomorrow, ostensibly to discuss retaining Gundy and under what conditions. Not every school is willing to put up with whatever their GOAT coach wants in the face of diminishing returns.

Lyons, Pittman and Glover were the only ones I heard about during the season

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Whittingham likely not retiring in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
Worst bet of the season would be taking Whitt to walk away from 20 MM because he was such a great guy who didn’t care about money and would do what he decided was best for the program and not him. Anyone who saw his retirement comments as anything more than his usual coachspeak was in denial.
At this point, the only change to the offense for…[Read more]

I’m not sure why Whitt failing on offense should be a surprise.,,
He’s had a two month head start to find Ludwig’s replacement and is still playing katsup.

If he does, I want every downvote I got for two years when I said Johnson’s future at Utah was as a receiver retroactively reversed.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Sione Fotu to the portal in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
Damn. I had such high hopes for Sione and Nate Ritchie. Neither have been able to do much after coming back from their missions. With Hall getting a bigger role as the season went on, and it sounds like Damuni will be coming back, playing time was getting scarce at LB.

Texas? To sit behind Arch Manning? Both Hawkins and Arnold got starting experience this year. They aren’t going some place to sit for the next year, maybe 2 depending on when Manning goes pro.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Raycine Guillory is a Ute! in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
Offer lists don’t always tell the whole story. We don’t know how many offers are committable.
Looking at Mississippi’s class, they’ve had Shekai Mills-Knight committed since August. And, so far, they’ve only taken one RB out of a class of 21 kids. Mills-Knight is bigger (6’1″ 217), faster (11.39 100), higher rated (.9375 composite, #8 RB, #143…[Read more]

His video doesn’t come up for me on 247. Do you have a link that works?
The only time I can find for him is an 11.76 100 as a freshman. For comparison:
Randle – 11.15
Stanley – 10.76
Mitchell – 10.81 -

@jshame17 is correct. Roster is reduced to 105 but all players can be on scholarship.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Leftwich in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
you’re forgetting the immense strategic advantage he’s gaining over teams on the 2025 schedule by not announcing. They’ll have to plan for 17 different possible coordinators and 2 different head coaches.
It worked so well with QB’s, why wouldn’t he lean on the same strategy for coaches?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Two things I don't understand about the Ute Fan base (at least online) in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
When your team wins ~ 90% of it’s home games (even counting 2024) and maybe fitty percent on the road.,,
And that doesn’t even account for the revenue bump an extra home game gives over playing in front of family and friends somewhere else

What was the first (others)? I haven’t lived in Utah for over 30 years so if it doesn’t make national news like Perriman I probably missed it.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic New Recruit Additions in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
I know you’re joking but with the new roster limits and teams devoting more spots to the portal, the chances for HS recruits are getting smaller. Better to take the guaranteed spot for a year than decommit at the last minute if you don’t have another landing spot already set up.

@Utah: I also didn’t have an opinion on Harlan until the Tom Farden debacle. To keep a coach in his position after women athletes were claiming abuse in this day and age is unacceptable. And yet he made it worse by running an investigation which allowed Farden to keep his position and then had to fire him right before the season after more…[Read more]

Not coincidentally, the first 3 games of that losing streak were after Huntley got injured and Troy Williams couldn’t run the quick passing game at the same level.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Why would an OC who has designed a fast-paced offense want to coach under Whitt? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
realistically though, if you were Whitt would you change the way you do business? National Coach of the year, 4 straight CCG’s.,, all the reasons the keep Whitt crowd trumpets are the same reasons Whitt follows his formula.
Saban realizing that if he wanted to have a chance at the NC every year meant that he needed to embrace offense is an…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Why would an OC who has designed a fast-paced offense want to coach under Whitt? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
The timing on the OC announcement is usually an indicator. Arbuckle’s team didn’t have anything to play for this week and he wasn’t go to stay for a bowl. Same with Kittley (Texas Tech) going to FAU or Malzahn to FSU.
That would indicate one of two things: 1) Utah’s OC hire is at a G5 playing a CCG this weekend (Vegas, Boise, Tulane, Army,…[Read more]
