Besides Miami, the only games I watched on TV involved former PAC schools. I’m not going to get emotionally invested in the Big XII when it’s clear, at least to me, that Utah’s membership in the conference is temporary.

Any idea what the uniform is going to be versus Baylor?

I would disagree with the point that a player is at a far greater risk of getting hurt is he’s playing against a strong opponent. Injuries can happen anytime a player steps onto the field and you could even make the case that they’re more prevalent against weaker opposition because players are not as focused or take the opposing team for granted.…[Read more]

1. I’ll be glad when Utah is in the Super Conference and doesn’t have to play any more FCS schools. These types of games do nothing for the team. No good comes out of them at all.
2. Boy, Rising and Kuithe sure look like they’re back. Again, the competition probably skewed the on-field product, but you can’t argue with the results. Next…[Read more] -

That’s football in a nutshell. You’re only one play away from having a disappointing season.

Florida State just started this season like they finished last year. They just lost a significant amount of buffer if they want to go to the CFP. Still have to play Miami, Clemson, Florida, etc…I’d be shocked if they were still playing in January.

Oregon’s football success is living proof that enough money can resolve just about any problem.

Welcome to the club. I could write a post stating that Rising is going to win the Heisman and here’s why, and someone would down vote it. It happens to a lot of people here.

2015. Utah vs Oregon. 62-20 at Autzen. I watch highlights from that game at least 2-3 times every season.

Unfortunately, that’s it. A lot of dominoes have to fall for Utah to bypass teams like UNC, UVA, Miami, FSU, etc…

It must really suck to know that you’ll be forever winless against a team. For when the One Great Scorer comes to mark against Williams’ name, He’ll write—not how he played the Game-but that he’s 0-3 versus Utah.

Really? That didn’t seem to stop a mediocre Kentucky team from beating the Gators at the Swamp the following week. And that was a game that wasn’t particularly close. Now, are you saying that a Kentucky team that went 7-6 in the SEC was better than the 2022 PAC title winning Utes?

The Miami Ute replied to the topic CFP projection: Why Kansas State is in, Utah out after training camp in the forum Football 6 months ago
Evidently, they do. Of the toughest tests on their schedule — Oklahoma State, Kansas and Iowa State — only the game against the Cyclones is on the road.

I agree. I guess the problem is that a second Big XII entrant into the CFP would cut into the B1G’s allocation. The article talks about that issue and I personally find it hard to believe that the Big XII and the B1G would have the same number of entrants into the CFP.

Bruce Feldman from The Athletic picks KSU to be the Big XII rep at the next CFP. Story is here: Bruce Feldman’s Playoff Projection.
He doesn’t specifically say why he dropped Utah out of the playoff picture, but he details all the weapons that KSU has at its disposal.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Biggest fears going in to the new conference. in the forum Football 6 months ago
The game at UCF really worries me now. Last game of a long season, players nicked up, about as long of a plane ride you can take from Utah and still stay in the Lower 48, rabid, sold out stadium with the likelihood of a national audience against a pretty good team.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Biggest fears going in to the new conference. in the forum Football 6 months ago
Biggest Fear Number 1 – That neither Rising nor Kuithe are the same players that they were before their injuries. This being football, it would not be the first time something like this happened. If that’s true, particularly in Rising’s case, then we’re in for a rollercoaster season, to put it mildly.
Biggest Fear Number 2 – That Utah gets every…[Read more] -

Brother, did you not read the part where I said that the floor for this team was a nine-win season? I’d hardly count that as a failure. Nine wins is what Utah had both times they won the PAC.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Are you ready to drink the Kool-Aid? in the forum Football 6 months ago
No. I’m not wrong. I’ve literally heard Whitt say that they went too hard at each other during the 2022 Fall Camp and that led to a bunch of guys on defense being nicked up for the opener against Florida. I’ve also literally heard him say that they dialed back the tackling in the 2023 Fall Camp so the same thing wouldn’t happen again.

To borrow a phrase, you are what your record says you are. A team that wins 10 games in a power conference is always better that a team in another power conference that finishes with a losing record. Talent is just one part of the equation.
