I guess his point is that every season there’s only one winner and everyone else is playing for second place.

Well, I’ve been alive to see them go to three Super Bowls in a row, win two of those and also have the NFL’s only perfect season. Nobody can ever take that away from me.

I didn’t get that…did you mean that you think of a salmon when you hear the word Chinook?

Yeah, I guess I’m also of a certain age. To me “Yeti” will always be associated with the term “Abominable Snowman” and the Himalayas. Yeti coolers are a product of the last decade and still don’t register with me.

Blizzard with a Moose or Elk mascot/logo would work for me. The problem for a lot of people is the name’s closeness to Avalanche.

Enter the Kraken, Ducks, and Devils…plus what exactly is a “Blue Jacket”? And then you have the Canucks, which can be interpreted as a derogatory term as it’s essentially a northern version of “gringo”. I think Yetis will do just fine…but that’s just my opinion.

Really? It’s most well known for the CH-47 Chinook helicopter but it’s actually a prevailing warm, generally westerly wind in western North America.

Yes, that ruling took place on 23 April. However, that’s doesn’t apply to people who are working under a legally binding contract like professional athletes.

If you’re going to go with a mountain weather theme, the one I like is Utah Chinook.

If you’re going to use a trout as your mascot, they should use the name Utah Cutthroats. It makes sense since the Utah State Fish is the cutthroat trout.

And just think…Vegas was originally supposed to be the “Black Knights” but that’s also the official nickname of all of the sports teams at West Point (Vegas’ owner is a West Point grad) and they took offense at a pro franchise co-opting their name. So, instead, we got the “Golden Knights” which is also the nickname of the Army Parachute team.…[Read more]

What’s your point? They’ve had four straight winning seasons and have been in the playoffs the last two years. You say that they aren’t feared? I don’t think there’s a team in the NFL that’s as feared from a passing attack standpoint. If it wasn’t for a massive wave of injuries on both sides of the ball towards the end of last season, they…[Read more]

Hey now, at least the Browns have made the playoffs pretty regularly over the last few years. I was thinking more like Arizona Cardinals like incompetence.

Which one do you like? Maybe Tony should start a poll. I must admit that I didn’t think much of Venom as a name but man, that’s a cool jersey.

There are guys out there who would be disruptive hires. I just don’t think that Harlan is the guy to get them. I think we all saw that when he hit the easy button and just went an hour up the road to hire Smith.

Not going to tell you how to feel but saying that this is the lowest the program has been in the last 20 years, I think, is recency bias. Personally, as a Utah fan, the lowest I’ve ever felt was during Giacolett’s and Boylen’s last years. Those teams really, really stunk.
Who knows…the way everyone is thinking that next season is going to be…[Read more]

Since the NFl is at the apex of this pyramid, whatever configuration is finally decided upon should probably look like its contractual mechanism. Again, I have no problem with players moving at will but there needs to be some protection in place for the schools that discovered them and provided the stage for them to shine.

The earliest Smith will get fired is at the end of next season. And that’s only if the Utes crap the bed during their inaugural Big XII season. If they have a season similar to this past one, Smith will continue to run the show on the Hill. Personally, again unless the Utes implode spectacularly next season, I don’t think Harlan cans Smith…[Read more]

Yeah, the way things are now, if BYU was a generic, non-denominational private school (like a Miami or USC), there’s no way that Utah would be able to compete with them and Smith’s financial doping. They kind of screw themselves by having all students have to abide by the Church Educational System Honor Code instead of being a typical university.
